Sorry Dan, but you have to laugh about it mate, i think Garonne would be having a breakdown if he paid the same as i paid for my first batch of shares, that's the joys of the stock market, some you win some you lose, maybe i should have taken my wife's advice and bought premium bonds, but would have been very boring ?

Garonne, just hold on to these shares for 25 years and keep telling yourself it's only a loss if i sell them, that might work?

or maybe not;-(( oh dear, you could always take a chance on some premium bonds or the lottery

AbjectPerformer, I can only state which is performing the best right now, but you are absolutely right in what you are saying in the next six months things maybe completely different, i do hope so as i have twice as much invested in lgen as i have in aviva, but it does actually have to happen and not just talk, in the mean time it's no good counting the 8% dividend yield if you are losing the same amount on your capital cancelling it out, from past experience i have come to accept that shares can keep dropping there is never a guarantee that they will return to their previous highs, but fwiw, i do think this is a solid company and will come back good in time, would be nice to see it actually happen though as it has been falling behind for a while now

BsaBantam, personally i prefer the shares that are rewarding me for my investment now rather than a maybe later on, and that's aviv not lgen, ok lgen may get better and we might see 2.80 plus again, but we may not there is never a guarantee that it will return to what it was a few years ago, we just hope it will

Sorry I meant to say aviva is definately my best performer, but hopefully lgen will come back good àgain

Toshack, unfortunately, i have double the amount invested in lgen than i have in aviva, i wish it was the other way around, This is definitely my best performer, lgen was over £3 a few years ago but currently not doing so well, as for the answer to your question why is aviva doing so well and lgen is currently under performing i don't know unfortunately, but i'm glad i held onto my investment here

Dan, I hope you are right about things looking good and reinvesting dividend, As you know the dividend income is going to be halved next year, so quite a drop, I have to admit i would be more confident about it if this was closer to 80p, but anything can happen i suppose, if the cut in dividend results in more profits and a higher sp to make up for the dividend cut then that would be ok, if only i had a good crystal ball

Is it a good thing giving the china more involvement in our networks? i'm surprised it got passed on security issues alone

It's making the decision what to do with the last full dividends now, do you invest it somewhere like mng/lgen/aviv/phnx or other good dividend paying stocks or reinvest in Vodafone, what's everyone thinking ?

It would be very boring here if all the posts were positive even when the share price is dropping or not going anywhere.

The positive posts always get more recommends because it's what everyone invested here wants to believe ?

The problem is since 2018 the majority of positive posters here have got it wrong and the long term holders like Daniel fleccy /moleman and myself just a few of them know dam well that is true.

Garonne, you will have to decide for yourself if you think this is worth holding onto or not, personally i think it is, but will not happen overnight

LTI, cheers for your thoughts on that, i have bought these in the 60s and 30s, would love to see them continuing to rise back to the 70s again, but i'm very aware they can be amongst the first shares to drop big time with bad events and the last tor recover, took profit on some around 55p the excitement of being back in profit here was too much for me lol, they are still my largest single share holding though, so hopefully will break past the 60p and move further north

Abject, a stagnant price with a 8% yield is not a problem, but what we need to be careful about is a dropping sp, we will have to see how it compares from april to april when it reaches its peak

Garonne, sell in may and walk away was the old saying, most of my shares reach their peak on approach to Aprils exdiv then seem to drop back in the summer time, except for Vodafone of course? that just drops back all year round, you have to laugh it's better than crying about it, 80p will be here soon keep the faith

Garonne, if only we knew the answer to that question then we would know if to hold or sell, 90p would do me for the first half sell off, hopefully we will get there in my life time lol
