Good evening Roofer, I sometimes use the premium bonds as a bit of a joke, sometimes to wind up our friend Daniel, several years ago i advised my wife to invest in Lloyds shares and as you know they've been in loss for years due to ppi/covid and anything bad that happens in the world, and every time my wife got a win on the premium bonds she would sarcastically ask me how her Lloyds shares are doing, well recently the Lloyds shares are showing a decent profit, I wonder if the same can happen with Vodafone ? as you say it's been a tough nut to crack but I've not given up quite yet, but next years reduction in dividends will be something to think about, so let's hope we can hold onto last weeks gains, it's a bit like playing snakes and ladders with this one, so hopefully we will start landing on more ladders than snakes

btw, the wife usually gets a £100 win every other month, but that's less than she would currently get in interest rates

Dan, you better hope the BOD have a magic wand, 80p and pushing towards 90 then they will get a lot more support from myself, so then i can sell some off, let's hope they can do it, otherwise a 50% drop in dividends next year is a very big drop in income, it's going well this week at least let's hope it can keep going

Robina, then please do us a favour and do not add, we don't want this dropping any lower, for myself i will be observing how high the sp can go by next April, if once again it's lower than last April it will be reducing my holding here once again, as nice as the dividend is, a reducing share price can take the shine off that dividend, but i hope it doesn't come to that, I would be happy with 2.60 plus the dividends any higher then that will be a bonus

Garonne, you could always put your money in a fixed rate ISA at 4.5% interest with guaranteed no loss of capital, surprisingly one of my best shares the last year has been Lloyds Bank after being down in the doldrums for a few years and also Aviva have done very well, but as you know everything has taken a thumping since Friday, so Vodafone has been following the trend

we will just have to sit it out , one day Vodafone will get to 80p just don't ask me when, the joys of the stock market lol

AndyP71, HL always pay the dividend very quickly you just have to look for it, when you login click on cash then income and loyalty bonuses and you will see the dividend payment there, you can then choose to transfer it to your capital account or leave it to be reinvested if that's would you have chosen to do by default

General positive sentiment, have you been hiding under a rock for the last few years, there are riots throughout the UK, recession in the US, wars etc, we have a new government who thinks it's a good idea to cut pensioners fuel allowance when they are putting asylum seekers up in 4 star hotels and giving 22% pay rise to doctors

Thankfully Vodafone is one of my smaller investments, but it still hurts ouch, good decision on your part though

This share has been rising lately so couldn't resist buying when it dropped back to 5.23 meaning a nice 5% yield coming up shortly for starters, I fully understand we could be in for a week of turmoil, so have held cash back for further top ups, i hate it when a share drops after buying, it's like buying something in a store then seeing it 50% reduced a few days later, i also made a top up on mng for which i have an average of 2.03 giving around 9% yield, will taking another look at lgen next April and hoping we don't see an even lower sp than last April

I expect the US will start reducing interest rates, it looks like they've left it a bit late risking them going into recession amongst other problems going on there

Viking.Raider, snap.your not alone i have also missed that boat, i was holding on for 65p, the biggest problem with Lloyds is the first signs of any bad news and it's the first share to drop and the last to recover, let's hope we get another chance

Gary, The markets took quite a big hit on Friday due to the bad figures coming out of the US, will be get a bounce back on Monday or are we in for further drops, if only we knew for sure which way it will go, i didn't want to lose out on the 5% yield on the upcoming dividend, but not sure if it was the right time or not, but good luck to you if you can get in for less, from what I've been reading up on the future seems very promising for this share, so hopefully a rising share price in the future

Roofer, sell in may and walk away would have been a rewarding strategy over the last few years, possibly the best time to buy shares is aug/sept, and when we get hit with a market correction everything gets battered down no matter how diversified you think you are, i took a big hit yesterday with all of the international funds as well as all the uk shares, so there's no hiding place when things go bad, i often have a dig at Dan for putting all his eggs in one basket, but maybe he's not far wrong about just holding a small number of good income shares, i just hope Vodafone becomes a good basket again and not a basket case

Couerdelion, that's what i was thinking, dividend yield is excellent at this price as long as it holds up, and i can't see any reason why it shouldn't, also let's hope we get a bounce back from the US spooking the markets today, my intention is to hold this for the foreseeable for income alongside aviv/mng/lgen/lloyds, yes i know i'm a bit heavy in insurance/pensions, but they are all good income stocks
