Fleccy, there is one thing i forgot to add in my previous post that i strongly agree with Dan on, is in my books a loss is a loss until it becomes a profit and turns from red to green or blue, i only look at total returns not just dividend income, but if your are happy to right it off against tax and keep taking an income that's fine

Yes I was referring to my sipp plus works pension where you can take 25% tax free then you are taxed on the rest

Fleccy, if that's what's working for you then that's absolutely fine mate, I've always said everyone should do what they feel is right for themselves, most of my investments are in a sipp and stocks and shares ISA, of course i will have have to pay tax on it when i start drawdown, the elephant in the room at the moment is what's going to happen in the budget

Dan, that's a fair point mate, but i do have to question you on it sometimes as you seem to get a bit over defensive if someone expresses their disappointment in this shares performance

we all know the risks involved with investing in the stock market, but the main reason for taking those risks is to get a better return than you can get in a bank/building society, and also you have to look at where you can get the best total return for your money in the shortest period, so i can understand why other posters may get disappointed when an investment doesn't live up to their expectations, i think you know i was hoping this would be 80 plus before results day, let's just hope we don't get disappointing results and see this dropping back again as we know as happened in the past

I'm still hoping this can improve as the share price is very low at the moment, but by how much and how soon is remains to be seen

I can only speak for myself, but when you get older you no longer want to be thinking of longer term investments, you just want to try and get the best returns in the shortest time possible, so each to his own and best of luck

You just keep up the positive blind faith Dan, it doesn't matter if it drops back to 50p as long as your positive about it that's all that matters

Garonne, good luck with your new investment, i hope it works out well for you, i'm still hoping for 86p so i can sell half of mine, how long that will take I've no idea, but i'm going to try and stay positive about it !!

Dan, you have to admit it's frustrating at the moment that 80p we are all waiting to see has been so close yet so far away, interim results in Nov, are you guys expecting them to be good or bad

Often hear it called a long term investment, that's because it's a short term investment gone wrong, unless of course you believe it's only a loss if you sell, but will it get better I wish I knew the answer to that

You may have a long wait to get back in at 2.05 if ever, this went up close to 2.40 before exdiv last March, but it;s your choice

Looks like Vodafone is not impressed with the US interest cut's, pity i really was hoping this could get closer to 86p before November results, maybe my expectations are too high, my biggest fear here is if the results are underwhelming this could go tumbling down again

Dan, if i could get 9% total return guaranteed with everything i would be very happy, but as we all know shares can be very volatile, just when you think they are doing very well something happens and you can start losing your capital, sometimes i think i would be better off selling all of my shares and going 100% Funds they are less volatile and often give a better total return than individual shares, but maybe add a few more UK funds into the mix, i mostly have international tech funds at the moment

Hello Fleccy, if you look at the likes of lgen/mng/phnx/aviva they have a yield around 8-10 % are they more risk i'm not sure about that, anyway vod is around 4.5 percent for the current sp but for those of us who have paid double the current sp we are looking at a yield around 2.3 percent, i'm ok about the dividend being cut and the buybacks providing of course the sp rises as a result, but we do need to see it rising to make up for the loss of income, so far we have moved away from the 60s and are very close to 80, let's just hope it will slow keep moving upwards, hopefully not too slowly

Garonne, what are you hoping to get out of this being realistic, I can't see anyone wanting to jump in here for the dividend anymore as there are plenty of other shares paying double the yield of this one, so we are depending on growth here to make up for the dividend cut, Interim results are in November fingers crossed that they are good, plus there's the possible merger with 3 of course, at least it's going in the right direction at the moment

It's true what they say then, money goes to money all the time, the least he could do is offer to buy us all a drink as compensation for having listened to him moaning about people moaning all the time,Sir Keir starmer will be trying to get hold of that profit to give to keep the immigrants warm in a hotel room

Well done Dan, it's nice to see it going up for a change, we are all trying to get a better return than we can get from a bank, it's bloody hard work sometimes though

Hi Dan, you should know by now i'm just winding you up mate, thankfully i own my own house and have a pension which is mostly invested in a sipp not an endowment, so that's the main reason i try to diversify as much as possible, as for Vodafone as we all know it's a journey into the unknown, let's hope we can soon break past the 80p for now and see what the interim results and poss merger can do here, I've no idea how long medium to long term is suppose to be, let's hope it's not too long
