More RATs on the loose10 Jan 2021 12:54
Ironic isn’t it that Rats contributed to the Great Plague of London in 1665 and here we are in 2021 and its RATs again helping spread a new Plague ….
For every 100 LFTs carried out there could be as many as 30 false negatives with people all ages helping spread the virus unknowingly.
If you take Victoria in Australia, it is a Covid free region. Why? Well, it had 100% PCR testing so they knew exactly who had the virus and you could not go anywhere until tested. Total lockdown to control it coupled with gold standard top draw testing.
In the UK, our control is diabolical. Buying 75 million LFTs from China was the first of many blunders this government has made, yet it continues make the same mistakes and expect a different outcome, total Insanity (Einstein)
The big issue imo really comes back to our lack of investment in infrastructure and skills. For PCR tests to be carried out you need skilled lab workers. We have seen the issues stated in the hospitals in training staff to use Gensig. Hence, although the gold standard, getting the results back takes to long due to backlogs. It is the only way to know for sure if someone is virus free or not but just not practical for testing the entire population.
Meanwhile, due to our dire control we are now in the worst position ever. 1 in 20 in London have Covid. So, with numbers now off the scale, the government are fudging it yet again. They can’t test all these people with PCR so they are rolling out LFTs to pick up at least some people with Covid that can then have a PCR to confirm the result, false logic being better to pick up some quickly that are spreading rather than none… trouble is that a percentage of the positives that test negative just ditch all precautions thinking they are virus free and so it goes on. So it helps on one hand but makes the situation worse on the other.
The way out of this: 1. Well ideally more PCR testing will help but as we have seen government capacity is not fully utilised which is probably another fudge. The labs do not have sufficient skilled staffing. Staff need training and volumes need expanding as much as is physically possible for starters. The numbers of PCR tests carried out in the UK must significantly increase.
2. Novacyt need a more rapid test solution of some description to roll out to replace the RATs so that thay can support volume testing and more over, a test that be carried out by any old idiot /none trained professional. Run this alongside PCR. Maybe our Loop test due out soon could be it?? But something more instant and far more accurate than LFT is essential.
Once we then gain control, PCR testing going forwards will become even more established, accurate testing essential as we will constantly need to be on the look out for new variants. The diagnostics industry will become embedded into the UK.
