More Patients hit by Fungal Infections2 Jul 2021 06:02
This is interesting…..
Weakened lungs and immune systems make people increasingly vulnerable to fungal infections according to scientists. Todays Guardian reports that fungal infections are on the increase.

“The combination of lungs battered by Covid, impaired immune systems, and both good and bad bacteria wiped out by antibiotics left critically ill patients exposed to moulds and spores”
“Armstrong-James, who also leads the fungal diseases unit at the Royal Brompton hospital, estimated that roughly 10% to 15% of critically ill Covid patients have caught aspergillosis in hospitals in the UK, based on his own work as a clinician”
Its difficult to detect “The important thing is to think fungus,” he said. “If you don’t think it, you’re not going to diagnose it, you’re not going to treat it, you’re not going to save lives.”
MEANWHILE;
Remember this taken from our R & D Update 24th Feb:-
“Novacyt's new multiplex PCR assay panel will detect all five major aspergillus sub-types and will run on the Company's q32 instruments, as well as open platforms. Novacyt expects to begin validation studies soon, with the potential to launch during H2 2021”
“Outside of SARS-CoV-2 infections, aspergillosis also remains a potentially serious respiratory infection, affecting 5 million patients worldwide”
Well talk about ahead of the curve, roll on five months and we now find that with delta variant spreading, which lets face it is likely to hit the USA next, has resulted in big increases in these fungal infections.
Novacyt to the rescue, our multiplex assay will identify them immediately.
