You get the feeling with a smoother macro economic climate we'd be holding fast at 850... as it is the world (along with this share) is dancing to the the tune of the US's somewhat chaotic approach.

The market as a whole is going to be volatile for the next 3.5 years thanks to the us voting in a convicted felon and fraudster (who's also been found liable for serious sexual assault). Alongside his criming he's not the sharpest knife in the set business wise (seven times bankrupt...). As for RR... have the fundamentals changed? No. Will RR get sucked down if there is a significant market reset? Probably - however as the fundamentals haven't changed and RR is still a money making machine with a number of new revenue streams ahead (SMR / narrow body) LTH's shouldn't worry (IMHO). I have been led to believe that there will e a major announcement from RR this year - i don't know what about but have been told it is positive and a new venture for them. I'm guessing they are going to announce a re-entry into narrow body but it could be something completely different. So we have a profitable company, more defence work, more SMR orders and "something big" to look forward to this year. I'm going to ride the volatility (whilst cursing trump) and set my target at £12 by December 2025......

I highly recommend filtering nice but dim tim. You still have to contend with the replies from more cerebraly gifted posters. I suppose it creates a game of "what has Timmy posted now"... whilst on the subject of filtering what was the name of the idiot who eventually got banned 3 or 4 months ago..... constantly claiming to have given sage advice (after the event). I'm not totally convinced technical market indicators can be relied upon when you have e a 7 times bankrupted idiot as "leader of the free world". I knew it would be bad in a second trump administration but I'd forgotten just how stupid he was..... this is going to be a very long and painful 3 and a half years.

It will be interesting to see how far the Republicans will let trump go with tarriffs. He's totally obsessed with them and assumes if he taxes goods coming in it will force the US to produce goods at home. The amount of pain and price increases the US will need to endure for this plan to work is truly eye watering. His base, whilst loyal, will only take so much. I see he's now touting a third term.... just imagine how calm the waters would be if US citizens had been able to vote in their first female President. Unfortunately being female coupled with being black was just too much for 50.1% of those that voted.

Schumers capitulation resulting in the avoidance of a government shutdown has bouyed the US markets. After hours looking very healthy at the moment. Strong start on monday unless something kicks off to spook the markets.

Whilst I would love to learn the ways of the chartist I am often slightly overwhelmed by the nuances involved "it could mean this unless that happens and of course don't forget the sliding meercat and pouncing draggon which always precede a strong downturn" - I read what Svend says and wholeheartedly believe in his fantastic predictions however truly understanding the dark arts of the chartist is a step too far for this 52 year old hillbilly. Fully respect your double Tea pots and false bottoms but I'll continue to read beetween the lines and hope that I'm adding 2 and 2 to come up with 4....

I personally think 2 things are going to happen which will help the market - 1) trumps will reverse his tarriffs and 2) There will be a ceasefire in Ukraine. There will be more bumps in the road but I just can't see trump idly watching the market destroy itself on the back f his bad policy and I also think Russia is a lot more desperate for a ceasefire than you might imagine (their economy is in tatters, their soldiers are suffering incredibly low morale and the Russian people do not understand the war). The only reason Russia is stalling is they want to claim back alll of their lost territory in Kursk to deprive Ukraine of a bargaining chip. Give it a week or 2 - Russia will have claimed back 90% of the Kursk territory and will be ready for a ceasfire. (Don't be surprised if Ukraine has a few tricks up their sleeve - they are a very enterprising people...)

So in answer to your question Svend - I believe the market will recover (in the short term).

Not being a chartist (or overly literate in Fibonacci) I can barely comprehend what you've just said Svend.... However my take on the downward forces on the market is trump's trade war and the markets not liking his hokey Kokey attitude to it. Markets like boring. Markets like predictability. Unfortunately we're not going to get either for the next 4 years. the one (possible) saving grace is trumps obsession with the market - he has judged previous Presidents performance on how the market has faired under their tenure and so it is to be expected that he will be judging himself by the same measure. There are 2 caveats to this. Firstly, if the markets continue to head south trump will blame it on inherriting a weak economy which was bound to fail (he was saying this before his inauguration - not because it was a fact more beacuse it was a useful ploy (if the markets failed under him he could say "I told you they were weak", if they rallied he could say "look how amazing I am turning around a weak economy"). The second point is maybe trump doesn't care as much about the economy anymore as he can't run again (obviously a further caveat is he has teased he may run again despite it being written in the constitution you can only hold the office twice.....)

the problem with trump is alongside bat**** crazy trade wars and threats to annex canada / greenland / panama you have random acts of madness thrown into the mix. 98% of what he says is a lie - but the media / markets still react to every word. i have a theory that canada is going to do ok from the trade war - there's already a movement in the us to "buy canadian" and the canadians have gone full boycott mode on us goods (considering canadians are usually incredibly placid and docile to go full on boycott mode is quite a thing). the us has no reason to "hate" canada but canada has every reason to have a beef with the us. it's not going to end well for trump.

back to rr - there's always a lot of noise coming from trumps mouth - 98% is not going to affect rr one bit. apart from a worldwide recession - which he is likely to cause if he stubbornly contnues with his petty trade war - however i think he'll back down as the markets continue to drop - his narcissisim won't allow him to be blamed for a market collapse (although he'll obviously blame biden)....

My wife had a full on panic attack on Monday suggesting everything should be sold.... but she's been saying that at £3, £4, £5, £6 :-). I explained Svends "it's just noise if it's under 5%"...... and then it dropped by 6%... Managed to hold onto the shares and tough it out :-). Imagine what the rise would be like without a psychopathic narcissist running the "free world".... if nothing else it would be a smoother ride.

AZ are you a millionaire or a billionaire?? You do realise that all the cuts taking place are to finance tax breaks for millionaires? The maga plebs are going to get totally screwed. Medicaid cut, social security cut, federal employment cut, veterans laid off... all of this to find tax breaks for the mega rich.... and to top it all the 'party of fiscal responsibilty" will double the national debt. The significance of Luxembourg is lost on me... but an order is an order :-). Just looked up where they're manufactured - apparently in Germany, China and Russia (I'm assuming the russian operation isn't manufacturing at the moment??). Supposedly retail for between $200k and $500k - depending on spec.

Could it be a tripple whammy? 1) large back order, 2) narrow body introduction looming on the horizon and 3) old "inferior" blades getting swapped out with newer blades capable of increasing time on the wing?

If it was nice but dim Tim who innitiated the US discussion I'm oblivious as I've filtered him (for crimes against intelligence). I was merely spit balling on the back of a quote.

Having done a very basic Google search it appears the US have approved a design by Nuscale for an SMR - no details on whether it went to competitive tender etc, etc.

I am concerned that the orange one may use the SMR tendering process (along with God knows what else) as some sort of carrot for a favourable trade deal with Starmer. At the end of the day the Orange one wants all deals weighted heavily in his favour - his "business" background is littered with contractors not being paid, lawyers not being paid and deals collapsing in a fog of bankruptcy. Whilst I realise Starmer is desperate to secure a favourable trade deal for the UK he needs to tread very carefully with the current US administration.

I wouldn't bet on RR being chosen to supply SMR to the US - Not a good message from trump if foreign companies are chosen ahead of US companies. Very annoying that we will almost certainly give a US company some of the action - because we're frightened of being accused of being unfair... C'est la vie.
