RE: Aston Martin F1 targeting wins within 3 years25 Apr 2020 08:29
I don't think that anyone should wish for AML to have an actual engineering operation in F1 - it's a hiding to nothing! And would take a decade of building and investment. Remember AML don't even make their own road car engines. F1 is that complicated that even McLaren don't make their own engines!
Having their name above the door of what is known to be the best performing F1 team related to budget on the grid, has to be a good idea. If the intelligent folk on here 'assume' the technical relationship between AML and the Aston badged F1 team, then so will the majority of the public. The marketing impact for the brand and experiential goodwill will be monumental, and a bargain at the price. Part of my work is inside F1 Paddock Clubs around the world... and the way Ferrari and McLaren leverage road car PR from F1 is incredible, their VIP suites filled with their road car collectors.
F1 heavyweight of Toto Wolff buying in personally, with all his inside info and experience, is all anyone should need as a statement of intent. IMHO.
