@Bully1985 quite a lump averaged at 48p... in for the long haul with a fairly balanced portfolio, some for quick wins, others because they're currently low with a strong future, like AML.

Those sales numbers are better than expected. Seriously, no-one buys cars remotely when they can just hold off until the dealerships are open, it's not an impulse purchase or like buying a TV! Most luxury cars are special orders too which are impossible to place with lead times unavailable when factories are shut.

Yes the mechanism is there to do as you describe - but fundamentally it does not, and has not been happening. Through any brand that I am close to - AML, Lamborghini and McLaren. They've all been shut, all staff except senior management furloughed. How are furloughed sales staff going to sell cars?

Yup the number of cars I've ever bought from a dealer without going in to see them is.... uhmmmm.... zero.

My business is in the same area.... selling non essential luxury things to wealthy petrol heads. And whereas there has been a few projects that have been paused or where wives have said no - the balance of new enquires has exceeded it, with normally busy people maybe having the headspace to think of something outside of work for a change.

IMO the luxury automotive segment will pick up pretty fast from exactly where it left off, as soon as we're able to get out more.

Buying in one of the best engines out there is prudent. It costs millions to develop an engine and it would be a monumental effort to improve on an AMG!

Personally I think they could have done a little better with the DBX... styled more aggressively and it's not quick enough. But it will be successful because of the army of sportscar owning brand advocates who want one to take the kids to school.

McLaren are just showing here the importance of assets to leverage from!
As I read it - they applied for a government loan because it would be cheap in the current climate, but were rejected because they don't really need it. Which seems fair!

@3300 I don't understand your point... yes of course McLaren are producing cars for export - their biggest market is the US.

With his life ahead of him as a Mercedes brand ambassador Lewis is going nowhere until retirement. I've been in meetings with his manager where this is already a known plan.

It's the other way round Preefty.... shorters borrow shares maybe around 60p level in this instance - then buy shares to give back when they're lower, pocketing the 30p difference. They have to set their target bottom on something... the 30p rights issue level would have been sensible.

@dealer55 finances look a little unsteady on the surface - although IMO can be reasoned out with a little logic. Several other issues.... the rights issue to existing shareholders at 30p didn't help - but could well be why the bottom looks like it was there, hopefully. Shorters may well have set that as their target, based on the rights issue price, and have been tactically driving the price down until it gets there - now they're all buying out of that position hence the sudden jump. Is how I see it at least...

I understand the concept and benefit of de-stocking having been through it myself before.
Yesterday I was offered a brand new Vantage for £2k down, £1200pm for 2 years, then just hand the car back. Sorry but that's actually too cheap IMO.... my Audi costs me more than that!
But good to see they're taking the challenge seriously, I guess.

@GingerHippo do you have no concept of how much investment goes into building entire new plant and developing a totally new type of car... that was shortly to be realised before covid hit? The DBX order book for this year is full.
It really really doesnt take much logic to see how this is going to turn around... fast.

I'm here for the long term, as are the majority. Yes I'm well down.... but the only thing that's going to seal that for certain is in selling up! We all know that AML has a strong future when the world re aligns, despite the barrel of poop the majority of businesses are in right now. SP has literally nothing to do with the value of a brand... which anyone with any commercial experience knows so well.

Aston Martin clients are generally above where the pain in the economy will be. They'll still be hit... but seriously, car buying money is a monthly expenditure to the majority of their client base.

Could I respectfully suggest that considering the levels you've bought in at, and where the global economy is right now, that if you're 'very worries' - you're in the wrong game.
