I have invested here based on positive momentum. Up 13% in 1 month, 32% in 2 months, usually a good sign.

I was ready to sell my TW shares based on my system of holding for a year. However they are still quite high in my momentum list and as I am now moving 50% of my portfolio into income shares I will hold for another year based on the good dividend.

I've sold the remainder of my OCDO having bought at £3.50 2 years ago, they've been an excellent investment. However the momentum seems to have died out so I've transferred my money into CHEMRING and TAYLOR WIMPEY, which are both showing excellent momentum.

Continues it's nice steady rise, also IC tip of the week.

I'm not a fan of some of their methods to be honest, they increased my mother's premiums by 60%. When I told them I was going to cancel they agreed to leave the premium as it was.

T, I wouldn't bet against momentum, when a share like MCRO has fallen so much it is likely to fall even further. I think last summer they were about £20.

I am sure that there is little slack in the workforce but I do no wonder what proportion of the high paid jobs actually add any value. I think we reward the wrong type of work. I was paid lots of money as a FD but I do question whether I actually added anything to the economy? And there were lots of people above me who were paid a lot more and contributed even less.

The problem is that we do not encourage our own people to do these "unskilled" jobs.

We need to increase the pay for these type of jobs and discourage the highly paid middle managers who contribute nothing.

Tom, I know we don't always see eye to eye but congratulations on your success with GGP.

It is wise to take out your original investment so that you are in profit no matter what happens. I have had the good fortune to do this on a few occasions and it is certainly a nice feeling.

I thought I was going to win the UK stock challenge for January but it now looks like I will be pipped by someone who has GGP as 1 of their 5 shares !

T, I must admit I'm a bit confused, you bought at £12.80 and sold at £12.81, surely with costs you must have made a loss. Also I don't understand the logic of measuring performance by number of shares, 100 shares at £10 each is worth more than 110 share at £9.

Tom, I was replying to Nige, not quite sure why you take everything so personally.

Congratulations on your success but my opinion is still that AIM is riskier than the main market. If you can prove to me that this is not the case then I may invest in it, but otherwise I'll stick to the main markets.

I agree that diversification is important. I always hold at least 12 shares so if that one turns out to be a dud (and I've had a few) it doesn't cause a major problem. My investments are my only source of income so I probably have to be more cautious than someone who has other sources of income.
I agree also with AIM, unless you are especially knowledgeable of the company you might as well go down to the casino and stick your money on red or black. I think investors in Sirius, UKOG etc. wish they'd never touched AIM.
That's not to say you can't make money on AIM but it's more likely to be due to good luck rather than sound investment skills.

I think the problems in Hong Kong plus the threat of the new virus in Asia is causing the negativity.

T, I agree that making suggestions is a good thing and I hope you can prove your system does work, I might then have a dabble myself. It does seem very hard work though. Personally I spend a couple of hours at the end of each month updating my momentum spreadsheets, I then put 1/12th of my portfolio in to whatever is top of my list and leave it there for 12 months. Works for me but maybe not for others.

With regards to TLW I am not as sympathetic as you to one particular individual who put all his money in there and lost a small fortune. I remember the abuse I got from him a few months earlier when I had the audacity to sell my PMO shares. Notwithstanding this abuse it is very risky to have all your money in one share, especially one that has fallen dramatically, they often continue to fall. Momentum works in both directions.
It is good that we can make comments on this BB without the abuse that often appears on other BBS.

T, I think you need to prove that this strategy makes money before people are convinced by it. So far you have quoted lots of theoretical examples but I don't think you've made any profit yet.
90% of day traders lose money so G and others are right to be cautious. There is always the risk you can be left with a share that plummets, FEVR is a recent example but there have been many others in the recent past. Even Ocado has had big losing days in the past. It still hasn't recovered from the 21% drop over a few days in November.

Hi T, I sold 2/3rds of my holding at 200% profit because it had risen to about 30% of my portfolio and I don't like to have more than 10% in one share.
Incidentally one of the shares I invested the proceeds in was TCG so it shows how erratic long term trades can be. I didn't follow it all the way to the bottom but I did lose 60%.
I will probably sell the remainder of my shares at the end of the month and buy whatever is at the top of my momentum analysis at that stage.
You can probably guess I'm quite cynical about day trading but I am open minded and if you can demonstrate how successful it can be then I may look at it in more detail.

A nice £3k profit for me this week with Ocado. Achieved by doing absolutely nothing, just sitting on the shares that I own. I admire the work that you day traders put in but on the evidence so far I don't see the benefits. On average what annual return do you make on your portfolio ?

I've had a read of this log of your day trading on OCDO. Very interesting but just confirms that day trading is not for me. There are many factors that affect a share price and I do not see any logic as to why the share price would follow any particular pattern each day. I do see patterns on a longer term basis and I tend to invest based on 1,2 and 3 months momentum. I hold for 12 months and never have more than 10% of my portfolio in any one share or sector.

Good luck anyway, I sympathise with your health issues having suffered with cancer myself . I am no longer able to work so all my income is generated from my investments. I am moving my investments slowly in to FTSE100 shares that pay good dividends so that I can live off the income, hopefully these are "safer" investments. Time will tell!
