" The deal value for the multi-year-old engagement by Adani Transmission's distribution platform ar Rs 1,300 crore. The current contract involves installing the smart meters over a 30 month period and maintaining them for 90 months. The smart metering project, undertaken on a design, build, finance, own, operate, transfer ( DBFOOT ) basis also involves setting up communication and other cloud-related infrastructure. It will also provide an option to opt for pre-paid billing and net-metering facility for housing societies and commercial buildings with roof-top solar faclity."

" The modest progress made so far is indicative of the complexity and challenges associated with deploying smart meters and associated gateways and AMI platforms, on such a large scale. The map below ( page 3 of the report ) sets out the progress on smart meter roll-outs in India, by region, under the RDSS, as at 4 October, 2022. Uttar Pradesh, the largest state and Bihar, are the clear leaders, with a total of 2.27m meters between them, almost half the total deployed to date.

" CyanConnode's breadth of presence across India, is demonstrable by reference to the regional implementation metrics. For example, the company has delivered all of the the meters installed to date, in the following states:-

> Tamil Nadu: 124,945
> Karnataka: 20,916

This is in addition to the established partnerships in the market, of which Genus Power Infrastructures is a key example. As recent as August 2022, CyanConnode announced its largest-ever order via Genus in Bihar, comprising a broad platform deployment, with 1m Omnimesh smart meter modules, AMI hardware, Omnimesh head-end sorfware licences and support and maintenance contracts. Prior to this order, Genus had worked with CyanConode on four projects, summing to a total of over 600,000 meters.

From a personal point of view, it has taken many years for CyanConnode to negotiate into this position, with relationships being forged with different Partners over many years.

" Forecasts are conservative: Investors may percieve a disconnect between the growing momentum in the Indian programme and the revenue growth forecasts, which anticipate 26% revenue growth in FY23. This is a function of the greater element of deferred revenue recognition, plus a highly conservative management approach."

This is, as we were informed during October 2022, down to the new " Contracting Framework " initiative that all companies involved with the Indian Smart Meter Programme now have to comply with/are signed up to.

A fairly comprehensive report from Hardman & Co, with a some valuablr information on the gradual progress of the Indian Smart Meter Programme and CyanConnodes part in it.

From the report:-

" Process is reaching a critical stage: After a lengthy gestation period and a couple of partial reboots, the Indian programme is gaining significant momentum, which is impressive given the unprecedented scale of the roll-out of 250m smart meters across one of the most popular countries in the world."

" CyanConnode is emerging as a key technology provider: Around 5m modules have been deployed so far, in total, in India, of which CyanConnode has delivered approximately 25%. It is, to date, the sole provider and/or primary vendor of smart meter connectivity technologies in several states across the country."

CyanConnode have done very well to bring the TANGEDCO/Tamil Nadu smart meter contract back on board, after all these years and to make what seems like a valid contribution to the overall, Indian Smart Meter project.

.......... as it was known - prior to the aquisition by Cyan - and Wirepas, have each been offering different solutions in the Nordic regions for some years now. And have both been successful with their individual offers, in their individual way.

In the Nordics, CyanConnode is Partnered with MalarEnergi, HM Power and Helen Ltd and 25+ other Swedish and Finnish utilities.

But competition is taking place all the time, for any Company that does competitive tendering concerning Smart Metering.

At the moment we understand that CyanConnode has circa 20% approximately of the installed Smart Meter base in India. So circa 80% in going to a competitor(s) solution, at this time.

But I fully expect to see Wirepas and others breaking into the India Smart Meter arena, at some time.

But any competitor of CyanConnode already has a big competitor(s), who are taking circa 80% of the installed Smart Meter market, in India, at this moment in time.

So interesting times.
