I'm at Spiderman No Way Home this evening for a Tuesday showing so intrigued to see how busy and the percentage of concession items being bought to work around mask wearing in cinemas.

We had a press frenzy on this with constancy of 24 hours news on repeat and in the newspapers trying to force the government into further measures.

But, the elected MP's of the country, with constituents and many of whom own businesses and get impacted, voted against this and brought a maverick PM back into line.#

So today instead of that constancy of trying to influence and make the next news on Covid I turn on the 24 hour news and its covering the Ghillaine Maxwell trial, Japan Death Penalty , Philippines Typhon and the odd ministerial visit by Sajid Javid and others.

We might even get a bonus of a support package for the hospitality industry later today.

Been reading up a lot on events from yesterday and it is excellent news that Christmas is back "On" and that somebody withing Govt has sought to brief the media / public to clarify and reassure that Christmas is 99% back on. Parliament now in recess also helps as not many available for the media circus of interviews so things should calm down and in any case it would take 48 hours roughly to call them back and debate any new proposed direction and then to have a vote on it.

The biggest bonus though for me that seems to have come out of yesterday and more recent events (Partygate, Shropshire by-election defeat, Frost's departure, MP's voting against the government and potential votes of no confidence) is that the previous cavalier approach of our PM and announcing things without consultation has been completely "reigned in". No off the cuff emergency meetings. Now its Cabinet approval and then followed by Parliamentary approval. 2 big hurdles now standing in the way.

It would seem that at yesterdays Cabinet meeting, many within the Cabinet were unconvinced by Sage's doom and gloom modelling scenarios and were asking for "definitive proof" of the numbers. Common sense now prevailing at last and no doubt this full last 3 weeks of distraction of deflection and circus will play out and who will be the brave person to stand up and tell us a) the symptoms are mild, and b) that we got the numbers completely wrong.

Erstwhile we roll out the booster jabs at a remarkable pace and I have to admit to having transported 2 for their boosters in the last two days.

Much happier now that Boris's impromtu press conferences have been curtailed and we are now back into a more considered and calmer approach moving forwards and that things rather than imo "save my skin" approach are returning to a "data driven" approach.

Shame we have had to go through what also in my opinion has been a complete charade to get there.

Just checked on the opening figures for they can be subject to a bit of revision and the $253M weekend figure for opening weekend (with a guesstimate for Sunday) has now been upped itself to $260M.

Furthermore it is now up to nearly $600M worldwide and that is without even having an opening date for China.

I hope we had Garda World on hand to take the takings to the bank.

It's just as well that we had a monstrous Box Office at the weekend that is the 3rd highest opening weekend OF ALL TIME and that there has also been no change to the present restrictions, otherwise the share price might have gone up.

An absolutely phenomenal weekend at the Box Office with Spiderman No Way Home that exceeded ALL EXPECTATIONS and raking in a colossal $253 Million at the US / Canadian Box Office and of which we will have taken a very large chunk of that. Further Big numbers from the UK from Wednesday right through for an extended weekend and also our RoW territory ringing the tills as well.

All overshadowed by a poor opening and then add a whole lot more regarding politicians sitting round a table. The Market factors in a first "hit" on opening and then by the looks of it a "further hit" just in case further restrictions are forthcoming.

Then by the looks of it absolute common sense prevails and they decide to continue exactly as things were. So in actual fact we haven't changed position at all. That though doesn't stop the CINE share price falling nearly 7.5%. Just actually look at where the @CINE share price ended up today compared to all our sector peers. One stand out share amidst them all. Just absolutely incredible !! Airlines, Pubs Chains, Hotel Groups. Most between a fraction of a percent to 1% and 2% down, some even edging up. @CINE down 7.41%

Today thankfully for the first time in 3 weeks we have imho actually seen the first bit of common sense prevail in over 3 weeks and now we are allegedly back to being "driven by the data" and the key Ministers making the decision are not convinced by Sage modelling (or media scaremongering). It's been as clear as day that cases are not doubling every 2 to 3 days as now over 3 weeks in the numbers are just far too small on so many fronts.

I'm trying very hard just to ignore the noise and to get on with enjoying Christmas. Difficult though when you see other sectors and companies that clearly are clearly being impacted more than ourselves, yet lose only a percent, if that, and with more coming.

As of yesterday we were exactly 3 weeks from when Boris, Witty and Vallance stood at the lecturn in Downing Street, told up about Omicron and implemented "light touch" measures on the economy. At the same time when questioned CW and PV said that this multiplied every 2 to 3 days and that in 2 to 3 weeks times they should have a clearer picture.

Well we are 1 day past that 3 week point and setting aside all the sensationalist blarb in the press, the number of new reported Omicron cases today is 12,133 ?? And the total infections today has gone down !!

Would some kind member of the press actually sit down and question the numbers here - and actually hold Witty and Vallance to account.

3 weeks on confirm for us that in actual fact for the vast majority of the population this only results in "mild symptoms" and actually can you give us a proper breakdown of hospitalisations: *how many have been in hospital with Omicron,
*what is the average duration of their stay, also compared to Delta variant,
* number of Omicron patients that have sadly ended up on ventilators.

Remember that to date there has only ever been 1 person has died "With" Omicorn" and not "Of" it and with the Telegraph and others having purported this was an over 70 year old refusenik and with potentially other medical issues.

Lets be transparent on this, put some proper data on the table and then we can all make our own minds up.

exapt I fed this $500M worldwide figure onto the bulletin board on Thursday evening via a Box Office Analyst in Asia who was tracking the US presales and many others and estimated roughly $140M presales alone prior to opening in the US/ Canada, and it breaking records all over the place.
