That things are unknown to a degree, is true. I have 39,000+ shares, if this paid a 52p annual divi (not impossible going by past years), that would be nearly £20,000. As you know, this is well over the capital gains allowance and would lead to lets say about £4000 tax. This is why (amounst others) any decision is important to me. It may be important to others too.

In what way am I deluded? Nothing I have said alludes to that in any way. If they do delist obviously they would make other arrangements, whether that new market would be ISA qualifying and if or not any sale of peoples shares would be automatic are the questions for me. It seems that both of these questions are difficult to answer at the present time.

I'm not sure of the ease with which this may be set up but would the capital gain not be taxed when it is brought back to the U.K.? If that gain was over ones annual allowance, (Via a tax submission)?

Generally, if your broker has access to the new exchange then you just carry on with your broker. If they don't then they issue you with cash into your ISA, SIPP or other account to the value of the shares. If you own paper shares I assume you just still have those shares and the move to a new exchange is irrelevant."

But in that event, could the broker not also possibly ask what you would like done with the shares, that is
sell or issue paper, prior to doing anything ?

Are you aware of the countries/exchanges where this is the case? Then I suppose one could consider the likelyhood of that happening.

Thanks for your input. I'm not sure if II trade on Hong Kong, (if not I suppose shares could be transfered to a company that does) but I think that I'm right in saying (hopefully) that Hong Kong stock exchange does qualify for the ISA wrapper. Please understand that I only plucked HK out of the air, I have no reason to think it will or will not.

Thank you for some very good points, the fact that RA moved his shares is very interesting, that Evraz themselves are advocating it too is almost a clincher I suppose. (They (Evraz) have I think been behaving in a very straight way with shareholders).

OK, is that then assuming that large multinational brokers like II or Barclays etc will in some way divest or "steal" the shares that they have on behalf of their clients? I assume that those same brokers are presently on the Evraz register of shareholders. People have said that they have been told that div's etc will still be paid if shares are held with them. Also, I would assume that even if Evraz were to delist from LSE they would relist on another exchange in 'non russia' lets say Hong Kong for instance. Many others other than LSE still qualify for the ISA wrapper.

Or am I mistaken?

Maybe I'm missing something here but when held by the broker (II in my case) are the shares any less safe than held as certificates personnally ? If they can be converted to paper at any time, what's the worry? For many, me included, the loss of ISA qualification will be £10's of thousands if their value was to get back to half of their pre war level, not to mention the tax paid on dividends which inc other investments, (or on their own) could take one over the CGT allowance. So why not just leave as is?

Maybe if RA had spent £40K buying johnson take away dinners or £200K on doing up johnson's flat as Bamford did, Evras would not have been sanctioned in the first place.
