Roxy.
As I see it nobody is trying to stop discussion, but it would help if people were more honest about their motivations (a vain hope I'm sure, as sometimes even they do not truly know). In times past, people have gone to war for genuine ideals, be it the Spanish Civil War or WW2. It is no longer that clear today, but how does a westerner (I live in the UK) put themselves in the shoes of a Ukrainian who has had their lives upturned, country invaded, house and/or livelihood destroyed, family members or friends lost or irreparably harmed and only see more on the horizon if they give in? Are those people concerned for the starvation of people in the third world? How could they be, their needs are more immediate, visceral and personal, as they would be to all of us. Would they not? I, as most here would like my investment to raise in value (though I am not underwater like some) but I consider myself lucky that I have a safe place to live and that my children have not been conscripted to fight or die. I hope for peace, but that is motivated by being old, being a parent and knowing the pain of loss. These things are life changing and are of real value, however one may think of politics, systems of government or money.
May the war stop soon.
