Evening All --- just as well i made a few hundred on Sainsbury's today as it's nicely offset my running loss on DOM and DCG -----tomc , yes ---Esure seems to be a lost cause at the moment but not to concerned as only have a small amount ----Ftse100 just about managed to stay above 6600 !! i see TW did rise to 125p ish intra-day but pulled back ---one to watch for a while ? -----still doing ok on the Dow --my op. is that it has to drop back soon now ---feeding on itself at the moment and needs a pull-back to stay healthy !!---------GLA.

By going "short" of a stock effectively means you are selling / borrowing someone something you don't actually own !! they have the right to the dividend as they hold the stock ---you therefore have to pay them that dividend ---hence the deduction from your account !! ----hope that helps ?---GL.

Not quite sure what you are both asking/ confused about ? ------being long or short of a stock thru' spread betting is no different than holding the share thru' a broker account !! -----SP will always drop to reflect the Divi on the day but then the share price may recover somewhat as buying interest comes into the market from those who have either just recieved the divi and see it as better value now --or from buyers who just see it as better value at the ex-divi level --------Long posns will never lose oou, therefore, as such but Short posns. . can obviously lose out if this scenario takes place ---hope that helps ? ---GL both.

your short posn. will reflect the divi. drop --in other words your posn . will br better off but your cash balance will be debited the divi . amount !!---hope het helps ? --a long posn. would be worse off but the cash account would be credited with the divi. -------GL.

Action on this one today !! ----rose to and immediately dropped back from the 280 p level , which was the next touch on the long-term downtrend --closed last night slightly above top bollinger but not yet overbought on rsi --standing at around 63 at last close !! ----well above all moving averages except 150/200 --50 dma comes in around 255 p ----like Tesco , this one has put in a good performance recently to form a small uptrend within the longer term downtrend and as long as it closes above 250 p then that trend should stay intact !! ---i did go short @ 278 p this morning and closed out @ 255.5 p ---23 p drop banked will more than do for now !! ---short order in for break of 250 p ---but for the uptrend to continue i would have to see a close above 254.5 p today ----JMVHO ----DYOR and GLA.

Rationalised my stock PF. this morning and have closed out most of my "in-profit" shares --- i see a Dow pull-back of some sort soon and we will suffer as well --so will get back in lower down ( that's the theory anyway) ---am short DCG now after yesterdays gains ---up a fair bit already !!---not long to wait now before the US Non-farm Payrolls data ------GLA.

Well Dow Futures did indeed hit 17600 at 06.57 hrs this morning and triggered another short posn. for me !! ----

Good to hear from you again ---not much consolation , i know, but we've all been there and done it in the past ---my biggest one day loss on the Dow was £1,500 -00 ---- not that long ago actually !! --check the Dow chart out on IG Index --never been this far ahead of its EMA's --gone from 16074 low to 17558 high- 1500 pts. with no meaningful closing dips ---hasn't done that since the initial 2009 recovery -- it may continue to keep posting closing highs but the odds of a pull-back to at least the 50 ema down at around 16960 are stacking up against it now ---IG accounts are 74% short the Dow apparantly at the moment !!!! -- ----daily RSI is now standing at 71.2 --which is now an "overbought" indicator ----non-farm payrolls are out tomorrow at 1.30 pm so volatility tomorrow i would imagine will be fairly intense !! -- i am short again from todays closing highs but would not be surprised if it broke 17600 intra-day -- JMVHO sir -----i have been wrong on many occasions so fingers are firmly crossed -----GL.

All-time closing high for the Dow ----non-farm payrolls tomorrow will send it skyhigh or sharp pull-back ?? --- everyone else will suffer or gain along with it ---GLA.

GS ----yes, said yesterday i was not sure about BNC --but it has finished the day @ 528 p , right on that support sp i mentioned !! ---- Fantastic rise in DCG --- sold today @ 486 p ( 80 p in a couple of weeks ) ---!! Out my posn. @ 533.2 p --12 p rise in three days will do me for now ---not technically overbought yet -(-rsi only 65 -macd still positive ,running parallel to its 9dma signal ) ---all means Aviva is showing extremely positive indicators but is well above all dma's and approaching a very tough res. level @ around 535 p ----i will be back in , i have no doubt but for me it's now a "hold " until that high is taken out and held ------JMVHO everyone --Dow is still making new highs and has breached the 17500 level as i suspected it may --Dax and Ftse100 are doing well on its coat-tails ---if you're holding with Aviva look to the 520 level as first support ( and 50 dma) -----GLA.
