I find the bidstat documents a little opaque - they get reissued, dates moved etc. And my impression with them is there is maybe a sort of ‘call off’ so they allow for a maximum spend which isn’t guaranteed to be incurred? The £406m one for example..could it mean possible trigger of phase 2 or extension of phase 1, but nothing can be confirmed about actual value until purchased? This alongside the sensitivity about showing their hand to competitors/potential acquirers and profiting during a pandemic, all could explain how quiet they are being, I’m sure under different circumstances a company undergoing such amazing growth would be shouting about it.

We are all hoping so Chris! It seems to me, based on the mountain of evidence offered up here, that NCYT sales are likely to be mind boggling and that the BOD must be treating the range of possible forecasts used by brokers as the yardstick to judge whether rns is necessary (ie only when it looks like results will fall outside of those forecasts will they update us). That’s a pretty huge range. However I think (totally IMO) if they do land a big public contract they will have to announce it because it will be published under bidstats or equivalent and they can’t have that information released somewhere official and not via rns.

Shaun it will be a lot easier to answer that question tomorrow when the 4 ‘more accurate’ LFT’s are published by DHSC. How close to PCR can they get? And what about the issue of mutations...I don’t know how significant that might be.

2) don’t know yet - they ‘hope’ and are optimistic that vaccine gives longer immunity but time will tell, also complicated by the fact that it isn’t just antibodies at play in people’s immune response but also T cells, harder to detect...so you may not show antibodies on a test but may have immunity thanks to T cells (T cell testing currently complicated but simpler tests are in development, we don’t know if NCYT are addressing T cell testing but some diagnostics companies are).

NCYT doesn’t have an antigen LFT (unless they have a big surprise for us) and there must have been a conscious decision not to pursue this. I think the reasons for this are likely to be competition, margin and possibly longevity. Innova’s has been purchased as we know, and isn’t very accurate however it has been used and presumably has and will take out of circulation infected people who might not otherwise have had a test. I think a much more accurate LFT will be available soon though and then more reliance could be placed on them, It is unlikely to match the standard of PCR however, it is important to note that they can’t deal with mutations in the virus, and once covid is ‘defeated’ the market is likely to shrink. NCYT, IMHO has its eyes on the bigger prize of long term diagnostics to deal with an array of diseases/conditions and the PCR machines are the key to this long term plan.

Troublesome that’s so reassuring that PCR and LFT are required, I hope that this is to be applied everywhere. Surely if the horrendous human cost doesn’t discourage the sole use of LFT’s for care home visitors, the likelihood of a massive class action down the line would.

I'm not sure Kaeren, there is a theory that some of us have an innate T cell response, however even if it is only post infection, that's a lot of people who wouldn't need a vaccine (at least for some time).

Imagine how much vaccination could be avoided if people tested positive for T cell immunity...

One aspect of immunity that is particularly interesting is T cell immunity, T cells form part of the immune response and mean you can be protected from infection even if testing negative for antibodies (as I understand it is as if antibodies 'stand down' once the danger has passed but the T cells remain on guard much longer. I believe children' T cells are much bouncier and responsive than adults' and it is though that this is why children are rarely severely affected by the virus and older adults (with presumably worn out T cells) are. I would be very surprised if NCYT were not developing a test for this that would be more user friendly than the current process required.

They don't know yet, only time can tell - they hope antibodies last longer than they do after an actual infection and are 'optimistic that they will do so' but have to wait and see...it may be an annual jab but the hope is not because logistically, jabbing most of the population every year would be a nightmare.

Gazman my impression was that PCR is being used for residents in extended trial but LFTs for visitors (not sure on staff). My dad is in a care home and there are regular PCR tests.

I was about to post the same thing...billions in contracts there may be, but the bottom line has a - in front of it! Also completely different sector so why would you even compare the two?
