It could be that the fact that, as it says in this article, the UK has the best testing available for detecting the new strain (thank you Novacyt) so is the first to recognise its prevalence, rather than it being present only in the UK - similar to why it is likely to be all over Wales yet not picked up by tests because they aren't using Lighthouse labs (which we know use PrimerDesign) so much

Porky I disagree on the risk of a ‘premature’ takeover, the BOD just wouldn’t recommend it and even if the ii could be convinced to support a hostile takeover they don’t have sufficient holdings to push it through. Majority of pi’s who do hold sway have great faith in GM and would follow his lead if he said there was greater value to be gained.

Keep in mind that there’s a big chunk of unused Pillar 1 PCR testing in the system every day, could be used for this.

We don’t know the exact details of what the state school testing will involve - I thought PCR was mentioned but now not sure because it looks like LFT’s, again, will be the main method. Hopefully a new, more accurate LFT that is supposedly about to be announced? Anyway, private schools of course have more money (will pass cost to parents I’m sure), will also want to ensure accuracy to avoid getting sued by little Tommy’s parents when they catch covid off him after a negative LFT! This will of course broaden the gap even more between state schools and private, when the virus is much better controlled using good tests so that fewer students miss lessons. Very sad state of affairs.

I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that this is government school testing...reference to 16 Chinese students requiring tests so that they can go home shouts private boarding school to me. So it’s great news, but. Or necessarily Matt H’s roll out to schools.
