EagleEye I believe so yes. The Genesig tests work on numerous testing platforms including Thermo Fisher’s Lightcycler (Q machine equivalent). The Kingfisher, as I understand it, is used to prepare the samples for the PCR test by isolating the RNA (prepared to be corrected on this!).

This would suggest that the government need to increase the number of approved suppliers and pdq!

Nobody has said other PCR/other tests don’t do the same thing in picking up this variant though..that would be worth an rns if it’s the case..otherwise not!

Genuinely curious about why you are so convinced PJx - Johnson & Johnson and Roche have diagnostics divisions and it appears to be a string lacking in AZ’s bow. Is their stated strategy to keep it this way? There are of course other potential suitors, such as Sanofi and Avantor. I’m sure GM will reject any approaches at present t as based on his own £500k investment wants to see a much better SP and corresponding sale value. I have no doubt that he would recommend an offer at an appropriate level though, it’s a business, not a baby.

They may well have approached BOD with regard to a takeover and been knocked back. If they wanted to undertake a hostile takeover they would need to convince enough shareholders to sell to them so that the board would lose the fight even if not recommending shareholders to sell. That really only works when there are big chunks of shares in institutional hands - you approach a few of them and make them an offer they like. The majority of NCYT shares are owned by pi’s and contacting all of them would be a messy hassle no one wants to undertake.

Looking more closely (and if I understand it correctly after a couple of drinks), the Quantumdx covid test appears to be just an assay that works with specific testing platforms (eg Roche and Quiagen, doesn’t mention PrimerDesign), so number of tests and speed relies on the testing platform used. The handheld device appears to be designed for use in field hospital type situations and as far as I can tell it doesn’t support the company’s covid assay?

Neil - it looks good, doesn’t say how many tests in 30 minutes though, so assuming 1? And the Q machines can be used for all sorts of diagnostics including HIV and cancer.

Johnny I don’t think anyone is making predictions or claiming that a PE of 37 (or even 10) is justified for NCYT now, someone asked a question about how that might be achieved and I think the answers given were reasonable rather than rampy

Agreed, but I think it boils down to the market not being able to see beyond it being a covid stock right now, there needs to be evidence of forward earnings that aren’t expected to collapse within 12-24 months. I’m very interested to find out what acquisition(s) GM pulls out of his hat next, I suspect they will diversify the company nicely in this respect.

Neilrich P/E 10.5 seems quite conservative - Quiagen and ThermoFisher around 37? Is the comparison justified in your view?

Share price and market cap correlate with each other, 71m shares in issue at a value of £8.70 gives Mcap of £614m. If share price was £60 then mcap would be £4.2bn. How we get there? IMO by showing that performance can be sustained in future years - which would justify a P/E greater than what we have at the moment, thought to be between 1 and 2 but can’t confirm until results are released.

Interesting numbers involves..market cap of Alexion $26.5bn at P/E of 28. Purchase price $39bn. I have no idea how these multiples might be applicable to NCYT but even a fraction would be incredible
