danielh, Generally I am increasing my PF so buying rather than selling so want lower SP's Yes when I want to sell I want bigger SP's. I have sold a few shares over the years, bad outlook, over PF %, move to ISA etc. I suppose the plan will be to take the income rather than sell and hope the income will see me through retirement and it grows faster then I spend it. I even allow myself to spend some of the divis should the need arise. Mrs G has plans for a new kitchen, bathroom and wardrobes and I would like a new cinema room so I suspect Vod might be assisting in the efforts at some point. Its difficult to decide when to sell so dividends take that decision away and make it automatic and then I only have to work out when and what to buy. I was hoping Kim would shake the markets more than he did, there is always next time or more noise. September is usually a negative month for shares and October volatile so maybe change to add something soon. Sell just before new year? Not sure it will be 270p though.

Oohh, I'm a real investor. Not sure what the difference is to a "fake" investor. Yes the yield is good although its flattered by FX rates atm and this could change. Expect shares to pull back on todays news and Vod to follow. A small dip but will there be any repercussions causing a bigger dip? I suspect soi is the Wayne Rooney of the trading world, there will be a few good ones but most will make nowt. I dont think I could profit. I'll stick to collecting divis and trying to reinvest when the tide is out. Selling (collecting divi's) is done automatically so I only have to try and work out when is lower than average. So going up to 270p won't really help me!

You dont know the terms for that recommendation, it might be what its worth on the back of a bid?!! Still would you prefer them to say 175 instead? 23 weeks till the divi, sounds a long way off when you say it like that but I have others to keep me interested and one pays today. We will just have to hope that there is a nice dip before JP get their recommendation. It will shove that yield down a tad. Market expected to be off slightly today and the buyback seems like it just fiddling around the edges. Have a great weekend.

I laugh but not sure what you can do about "snowflakes." Just suggesting it probably has you up in front of the court of human rights. Its was the US navy, not ours but we have had our own incidents. Your cruise idea has merit, you could have a bit of bootcamp instead of lying on sunloungers all day, it will keep the decks clear for when it has some aircraft. SP needs a life belt and sea anchor .

char333, yes the SP is the SP. We have come of highs, as most markets do. Those high will get pushed again but I dont know when. OK that divi is weeks away but its much more stable than the SP and if you kept the Verizion batch then its not too far for then next knock on the divi door.

Yes I think there is a conflict but it offers both advantages and disadvantages to investors and the company. I suppose you have to take the option that fits your circumstances best. Can be a cheap way to acquire more shares, save on tax etc. Personally I take the cash for the pot and invest where ever I see fit, normally on a dip in SP. and not necessarily in HSBC. NG.'s script price is much higher than the current market but it seems to get taken up. Here they seem to manage the script discount a but better but thats because it aids the company, cheap placement? So your assumption is correct, no simple answer. I wonder who is the most disadvantaged ? not really thought about it much

On a PE of 17 and a yield of 4.5% is normally good for a decent growing share. Might be different if it was a defensive utility mind. Ending on a positive note, I think its divi pay day today unless you are opting into the Script @ 1033.10 pence per share. Ouch!

I still like to look at SP's over time and try and top up when its low or at least below its 200 day average. Tad difficult when its only got 2 days total. Still its risen both days and at this rate Christmas will be cracking. Did catch up on the results presentation, lots of talk on a special dividend with the £800m. Sounded like wishful thinking and it looked like they had ideals to use some of that on other things to me. So I wont be expecting it even if it would be nice.

Just travelled back to see if there were any comments from Buster after hitting your ramped up target. I knew you bought some black horse shares but didn't realise you had jumped ship completely. Still Ive been adding lloy myself and averaging up, the figures dont look as impressive now as when I first bought but it will be nice to get a bigger divi in time. Even Woody putting money on the horses too so maybe we both might be wrong! Didnt post my last buy on their bb at the time although havent posted anything for over a month and their bb is quite busy. Just more market noise really but not enough to make a big dip. Still if they were flinging nukes about, share prices might be the last thing we would be worried about.
