Tax efficiency, scrip, sipp, monthly top ups and or advice. Even the size and make up of your PF has a bearing. Have a look on the monevator blog, he had a list that compared various brokers and guidelines for which might be better under differing circumstances.

"and it's not only safe" I wonder what definition you use for "safe dividend" I have often hear x2 being used to signify a safe dividend. SSE is in the range of 1.2 -1.4 so not safe in my book. The latest update say that due to lower profits it expects this to be at the lower end of this "low" range. The yield is not as high as 7% ..... yet. I agree that it will grow into something like that over time if they keep upping the divi but I would not say its safe but its risk to reward needs carefully looking at. I suppose another concern for the dividend is nationalisation which is maybe partly why the SP is going where it is

Price for new listing. I missed the last update and asked them about the talk of a new listing at the meeting which they denied. Now I know they have stock answers but I wanted to know about a discussion at the official meeting. Well the thing that is not happening is now most likely happening and I expect that I might take part. I wonder how low it will drag the SP this time.

TryThinking,maybe we should be more positive, I suppose if they have spare cash to blow on add on's (did you see what I did there) we should be in a good position. Yes in the past some of the metrics looked good. Lets hope that this stays on track even with foreseen headwinds. Costs are now expected to be +3% rather than the higher figure. Wages will also be up, partly due to new seasonal posts for crimbo. Extra capex over the next three years will affect borrowings even if half is expected to come from cash. This extra pressure has to come from somewhere and I expect it to be on divis one way or another. Hopefully they will be held but I doubt I would be raising them .... even if its what I really want. Online was growing well, leases acting as an anchor but maybe SB will make this a growth company. Another positive is its not expected to be nationalised by Jeremy when he gets into power.

I think you are mixing two issues. SP's rise n fall, sometimes with the market, on news or sometimes on sentiment. SP's can and are often overvalued and as this stretches eventually this reverses making the market. I suspect rate rises will put a dampener on this add Korea Corbyn issues and its no wonder SP's in general come off a tad. As for pay, there seems to be all reward and no risk for many board members generally who get great pay and bonus only for the company to fall like a stone. I have voted against several remuneration motions and even then most are not binding but it sends out a message. Not ideal I know. I want the SP to fall more cos I want to add

TLWillams, I'm impressed that you have managed to equalise your divi income and I do like regular divis myself. I havent managed to get mine as close although it has played through some of my mulling's wanting to increase income in a particular month and I compare income with previous years to see if Im improving. It doesnt always work out as planned as I bought Tesco to increase Decembers income!. I think Feb or Mar tends to be lower then other months so maybe I should take some tips from you. I did like the idea GSK were going to try and equalise the x4 payments but they have not done well on that score in reality but at least its in the mind. Still I dont think that I would invest solely on the fact that this would pay out in a set month but rather its because its on the low side and I will sort out the unequal payments later in some other way such as working out my monthly average, lowest monthly payment and or having a bit in reserve. Still I appreciate that cash flow is also an important factor that has to be considered, I wonder if they could be persuaded to do monthly income? I am surprised that some of the more cash generative investments such as utilities dont do quarterly divis and still stick with the 33% 66% split. Maybe it cost more to administrate

Ive had individual loosers and still in the market but wonder if I will end up with no shirt or a nice tie and cuff links! I know its easy to make money on a rising market but then most sell out on a correction/crash. I wonder what the percentage is of share winners. I read an article that said being invested for 30 year periods gave you 99% guarantee of coming out ahead but cant remember the circumstances that caused a loss. Still with savings rates so low and being eroded by inflation even cash is not safe and almost guarantees a slow painful loss. Market expected to be on the up today

I think I have the same sods law as you I'm afraid. Have they announced the next ex divi date? Its normally early Dec. What is my guestimate for the SP who knows, maybe the full year results, next month, will give us a better indication of the way things are going. I became "concerned" once they announced the debt would be increasing to implement SB future vision. I hope they are unfounded but it doesnt look good for a divi rise. Not sure I would be buying at 1700, so is that expensive or fair value? The divi is not growing and is expected to be fixed again next year. Still there is hope, several metrics are improving and fcf is what I'm keeping my eye on as this should be key to see that divi increasing in the future. Just have to contend with FX rates and Mr Market till then. If this is cheap, there is nothing to stop it getting even cheaper. Still it might only be temporary so make hay when its gloomy!
