Blue83, PROmate didn't receive TVG validation to be used as a near patient test in the NHS until early February 2021.

I've just looking at that contract for quality control . From the wording in the contract the work is going to be predominantly testing lateral flow tests to ensure they are up to the manufacturers specifications. It also adds that the contract operator could be asked to provide a bespoke test service for covid swab kit's.

sir_digby, i've just read your post regarding the rise in false positives with lateral flow tests. Back in May there was a study in Japan were they used lateral flow tests on patient's and these gave positive results. However when these samples were sequenced the samples were shown to be Rhinovirus ( common cold).

I see Jo Martin is now a director of the Blizzard Institute where Novacyt are recruiting for a clinical trials manager. For those with good memory's she oversaw the care homes trial's that Novacyt took part in last year.

During the investor presentation Novacyt mentioned that 16 products had been registered and a further 10 are in the pipeline.We saw the first one's from the 16 with the launch of the new Winterplex and Escapeplex .This leaves a further 14 which must be going through clinical trials and validation at the moment.

sir_digby, thanks for the reply. I revisited that update the UK government put out (August 26th) regarding validation of any new lateral flow tests. In this update they state that they will prioritise lfts that use a anterior swab first for validation, then ones that use mid turbinate swabs and finally saliva samples. Enough said, they'll probably move the goal posts again before long

From the r+d update we were told that Novacyt are evaluating other approved self use lfts because of delays with the approval of the original joint offering. When they state approved do they mean CE marked or a test that has been further validated by MHRA ?

What we were told by rns didn't tell us about these products ,but they are there listed in the full contract( no quantities mentioned though).

We know from information provided that this is one of the diagnostic areas that Novacyt are targeting. Currently antibiotics are wrongly prescribed by healthcare workers because they don't have easy to use point of care diagnostic tests to distinguish between a viral and bacterial infection .As a result there are an increasing number of bacterial infections that present antibiotics will no longer counteract due to overuse. One report I've just read gives figures of 10 million global deaths per year due to antimicrobial resistance by 2050 if action is not taken. The global pandemic of the last 21 months has shown there is an urgent need to move more too point of care testing instead of having rely on sending samples to central laboratories when time is a matter of life and death.

Kaeren , just to complicate matters the full contract also list's the supply of genesig high throughput covid19 tests, Exsig Mag and the original Genesig covid19 test . These won't have been ordered for near patient testing .It's more than likely that they were supplied to the larger NHS laboratories that Novacyt were originally contracted to supply from May till November 2020.
