Sorry Broch, misunderstood, I ve already mentioned, that I think hes in the wrong job. Dont know how anyone could go to work every day hating it so much. Must be a bundle of fun for his colleagues.

All delivery spans are 4 to 4-30 in my office Broch. I was not having a go at part timers , I was stating to Wolves postie that if drivers should earn more for skills , then part timers would be penalised. Our part timers tie up and go due to length of deliveries. They dont prep , sort , put d2ds in , do kill offs or redirection. I was sticking up for part timers.

Its definitely a tracked service . We actually go to the doorstep , knock the door and collect the tests from the customer. They place them in a bag , seal it and the driver drops them with the manager . He gives them to the next lorry driver heading for the mail centre. Not sure if the special post boxes are still being used due to length of time it was taking to get results due to customers posting after boxes collected. Our office does covid collections on a sunday from houses , so small extra cost involved from that.

It seems that Royal Mail have been given the contract to collect covid tests from households , until at least January. I would guess this is a very lucrative contract .

So what your saying is most of the part timers should be on less money , due to having less skills. They dont have the knowledge to sort, they dont prep mail or d2ds , the dont deal with br mail , covid collections , redirection, kill offs etc , but do drive. If royal mail would like to pay for non drivers to take tests then that's fine . You seem to forget that most posties were employed when bikes were the main way of delivering mail.

Shorts decreasing, talks going well, parcels still at xmas levels , d2ds increasing. Could we have a good week on the cards ?

Oligarch , I wish I was dynamic. South Mids have recorded a large increase of parcels for leicestershire, I guess Atherstone also. Cant see a full lockdown but I'm sure pockets will happen all over. Can only be good for Royal Mail . D2ds are increasing each week now and baring in mind we we are at our quietest time of the year , many offices are still delivering near xmas levels for parcels . If we dont get any IA then things should be rosy for workers and shareholders

With a 2nd lockdown on the way , and royal mail , fully prepared for it this time , all the extra work coming in should be a big boost for the company.

Wont need to do job losses Wolvesposty, those that have been running around and those that having been working for free by coming in ages before there start times and then finishing early, will have more work put on their deliveries. Walks will be carved up and and those posties who lose a walk will become reserves, and reserves will cover vacancies, or shipped to another office where vacancies exist. If alot of change takes place in an office then a full resign will occur, with the same results. Everyone will then do all paid hours and overtime will be paid from your official finish time. They already have all the data from your PDAs and only need to work out indoor work required.

If you look at the state of the economy, we all know that many companies are going to make massive losses , many will stop paying dividends and many wont survive at all. If that is the case then are the results that RMG posted , really that bad? I may be wrong but to me they look a fairly safe bet.

CBB . I totally agree about agency workers. The costs are massive for very little work. Not sure I would blame the union for shirkers, I blame bad management . The union can only protect bad workers if management disapplinary process isn't followed properly . Every office has the odd one and if they were sacked we would all say, they deserved it.

Wolves posty. It's fine to go early if you have run round your delivery. Bet when you go over you dont do it for free. You've already said in the past about the extra overtime you do. If your only going over 15-20 minutes then maybe it's because your not working quick enough. Just a thought. If it's because your a reserve and being moved from walk to walk , then just remember that all those full time lazy old farts that you moan about , went through exactly the same as you. 10-15 miles a day, 5/6 days a week for donkeys years in the end takes its toll. Those you see running round now , to make time will in the future be those hobbling round . As for clocking in . You already are. Every time you use your PDA, and that information is already being used to work out how much slack to cut from your office. When a full time worker leaves, they get replaced by 25 hour worker. When a part time goes , they dont get replaced at all. Like I've said. You seem very bitter about something so maybe it's not the job for you.

No it's not. If that is the case in your office then you have bad management. A small number play the system but in the end they get found out through patterns or genuine sick taking them over the stage 3. Dont understand why you are so bitter. You signed for a 25 hour job. If the moneys not enough or your so disheartened then get another job. As for going over, that's your choice. Loads of part timers dont go over. They do the hours they signed up to do and then go home. It's why they picked a part time job. I guess you would rather they were forced to finish and the kids were left on there own. You can tell you've only worked at royal mail for a short time Wolves Posty. Get rid of sick pay!!!, so what happens to all the workers having operations due to the nature of the job. Feet, knee, hip, back , ankles. What happens to those on the sick through dog bites, or broken bones due to bad pathways etc. Are you saying that they should have no sick and then do a class action against Royal Mail and send them broke.
Maybe they should bring back slave labour, the workhouse, sweatshops and send kids up chimneys again , wolves posty can be the 1st to volunteer.

There are a large number of acting managers. They will revert back to posties.That will go towards covering shortfall. Turnover of managers is high, so apart from IT cant see too many being compulsory job losses.

From what I've heard Parcelforce are definitely being brought in as one company, which makes sense. Not sure how they would deal with the self employed/franchised drivers of Parcelforce.

I think I'm right in saying this. If you take out the increase in impairment charges plus regulatory fine , then profits would have been up. So not as bad as it could have been.

I'm feeling lucky. Even if it's a bad day , I feel with increased volumes going forward things will be good , as long as a deal is done with the unions . Good luck everyone.
