RE: Will BP up the share buy backs next week?1 May 2023 12:01
Gkerr, Yes hopefully the Results of both will be exceptional. Fortunately with BP and SHEL, they can move abroad and take their profits with them. As we've seen with HBR, which I'm also invested in, Hunt and Sunak have questionable morals as to how they raise their taxes, and even when they found the UK finances were better than expected that they didn't reduce the Energy Levy somewhat, thus proving their true colours. What irritates me most is that many - and I accept there are some who can do little due to old age, illness and low income - of those complaining about high energy costs still spend on their annual holidays, meals out and other luxuries, because these are now seen as necessities, rather than cutting their cloth to suit their means. It's very hard for a Govt to very accurately target those in most need because how can one measure whether someone is actually optimising their energy use and not wasting it, thus many receive State help when they don't need / deserve it. A lot of these 'save the planet' activists really have little understanding of all the implications of their actions. Even the Russian oligarchs overall have grown their wealth since Feb22 mainly due to resource prices increasing, Urals oil sells now well above the EU price cap !! The EU, US, UK and other Western bodies unfortunately no longer have the control and competence required to do a good job.
