I did say in my last post when I sold 30pct of my stake at 214 that I thought it would go this way - the old "buy the rumour sell the news" game - I have placed a long on IG at 270p - I wouldn't worry about this short term dip - long term the prospects are good. gl all dyor etc

at 214.8p - that is a 13.9pct profit which I am happy with - I have a gut feeling that there is going to be a bit of "buy the rumour sell the news" going on when the trading update is announced - the share was trading at 177p on Nov 13th and it is now at 214p - that is a 17pct rise which is pretty heady - I will use some surplus cash to cover a short position on IG if it looks like correcting then buy back in on the dip - if I am wrong then I will look for 240p with the remaining 70pct of my holding - gla dyor etc

not too worried about deb - the fall seems a little harsh and it is having an effect on MKS - two different animals though - deb cant make the margins via economies of scale like mks can and when you participate in black Friday you make even less on the margin - so a profit warning is hardly a surprise - if it goes bust or gets taken over then that creates more footfall for mks to aim for in the same way as bhs did - gla dyor etc

I think the reason for that is NXT purely clothing and MKS clothing/food so difficult to compare like for like - I agree with you Gelston in terms of the figures being up - I think the cold weather going into Christmas has been good news for retailers - looking at MKS cashmere range and coats - they seem to have done well on sales at full price - NXT participated in black Friday, MKS didn't which means MKS should have sold more stuff at full price - also a large amount of MKS current sale stuff is selling at 30-40pct off whereas NXT is generally 50pct off everything - I have been saying for months on this board that retail stocks are oversold - as you say we will find out on the 11th but I am cautiously optimistic -gl dyor etc

disagree with your suit opinion OL - it depends what type of suit you want to buy - MKS do bog standard suits at 150 quid or less which are not as good in terms of quality as their Saville Row inspired suits at 500 quid - you pay your money and you take your choice - next time you are in MKS try on one of their top notch suits and I will be VERY surprised if you think it is poor dyor etc

too many stores, inflationary pressure, Brexit et al have resulted in retailers being hammered and the sector is ripe for consolidation - this can be seen with Tesco/booker - small retailers will fall by the wayside, unable to improve margin through lack of economies of scale - the winners will be the big fish like Tesco who are able to increase margin through high volume sales - I would be disappointed if Tesco didn't hit 210p by the end of this week, and when the Booker deal goes through we should be looking north of 240p gla dyor etc

correct BJ but market makers take into account all relevant information when they price the share - a broker recommendation from sell to buy is relevant imo dyor etc

I did say in my last post that 2 pound was on the cards - well done to all the LTH'S on here (jonjo, opium et al) - Patience is a virtue - 220p is my forecast for the New Year as more brokers realise the error of their ways and upgrade gla dyor etc

the clothes ARE selling though to the 30-60 age group - if you look at the constellation dress - that sold out to this age group only a month ago - Holly Willoughby from TVAM is always wearing MKS dresses and skirts and they too have sold out within days - this was last week - MKS lost its way because it didn't come up with clothes that appealed to its core market - Zara et al did and stole its market share - now it has to take it back - it is starting to make steps in doing this and with its economies of scale should be able to increase margin as it did in its last results - AN knows this and would not have taken the job unless he believed he could make it work - I am bullish on MKS - share price oversold imo - gla dyor etc

the fact is young people and by that I mean teenagers will not shop and buy clothes in the same place as their parents - simple as that - I don't see it as brave adding I see it as a sensible investment - MKS is yielding around 6pct atm - the dividend is already accounted for in the share price and will be re-invested on Jan 12th back into MKS - MKS will be taken over or recover, either way I believe I will make a good profit - gl dyor etc

you are wrong imo nodinero - the youngsters are exactly the people MKS don't want to go for - leave that to boohoo, asos et al - if you sell cheap crap you become cheap crap - MKS need to stick to quality and their core market - 35-80 year olds - and win more market share from other retailers in the same market like Zara, Next etc - MKS can do this through economies of scale - I think you will see a different MKS now they have a proven retailer like AM at the helm - time will tell but I am happy to keep adding at this price and wait it out gl dyor etc

MKS didn't participate in the Black Friday weekend mate, hence nobody there - MKS are not competing against Primark they are competing against Zara, Next etc - Tesco are competing against Primark - you are on the wrong board DYOR etc

we shall see - (I am Carrington by the way not Norfolk!) - I thought that it would have actually risen not fallen today with dividend buy-ins - there is pressure on the share (re my previous post) - the Dow is falling atm - if that finishes well off I think it will go sub 3 with programme selling - we shall see - gl dyor etc

the whole enterprise IS being looked at Norfolk - AN has pointed out the good and the bad - it was in the results statements - AN knows that MKS can create margin based on economies of scale - these maybe uncertain times but I believe they will be good times for MKS - as more retailers in the UK go bust, MKS will take some of the residue footfall - AN is a master retailer, he did it with ASDA and will do it at MKS - I am very confident of that - as I said before their results BEAT market analysts expectations - they will go sub 3 tomorrow and I will be waiting to add - gl dyor etc

disagree with that Norfolk - I buy in Marks and their clothes ARE far superior to Matalan - I have sweaters that are 3 years old that are still as good as new and I have worn them to death! - share price way oversold imo but being supported by shorting - until this abates the share will continue falling - it can only fall so far though - Phillip Green bid for this at 4 quid so at sub 3 quid the book value stacks up for a predator - I will continue to add and reinvest the divi - their results actually beat market expectations but are being held back by macro/micro economics - trumpeconomics in usa and inflation/brexit in uk - dyor etc
