Chilly here tonight at camp 1, but the skies are clear, and the forecast for the next few days is good, so we should be able to make decent progress up the northern escarpment. Had a few days now at this altitude, so no problems with altitude sickness. Not sure when the attempt at the summit will come, but shouldn't be too long now, and we are all fully prepared.
As any climber knows, the descent from the summit is the most dangerous part, but we wouldn't be here if we didn't accept the risks. The thrill of the climb is the thing, but if there's no risk, then there's no fun.
"No guts, no glory" is the phrase, I believe.
"Better a day as a tiger, than a year as a goat" is the other phrase that springs to mind.
Anyway, if we can't accept the risk, then we shouldn't be here - we should just get jobs in the civil service, and "invest" in National Savings Bonds. I'd rather just kill myself.
Time to get in my sleeping bag for the night. Like I said earlier it's chilly tonight, so I will be wearing my socks. Just not on my feet.
Gooddnight.
