And through the grapevine I've heard that the flight carried no outbound pax, but one inbound to town. Not a medivac, so something unusual. Maybe someone with enough 'clout' to justify a special flight, and I can't help wondering who it could have been. Government, maybe? (Though that's guesswork and probably wrong.) Maybe some piece of equipment being flown out and someone hitching a ride back. Or some engineer whose dayrate is high enough to make a special flight economically worthwhile.

Gosh! I must be getting bored if I'm beginning to speculate on reasons for a chopper flight when I know we'll probably never find out the answer!

What a negative post. Sounds like there's some 'frustration' creeping in.

There are seven weeks to go before the end of H1, and the company has said they're still on track for FoiL announcement by then.

The company (or rather Dr T in an interview) has said about three weeks from 'commissioning' to FoiL, which has been interpreted by many as the time from first hydrocarbons flowing to both wells stabilised at production rate. So that takes us to the first week in June to see or hear of a flare.

If no flare by then, maybe reason to get nervous.

But also, first week of June is the AGM, at which event all the cards will have to be shown on the table, anyway.

Patience, goddamit. (And that's something I personally have to keep a tight bind on regarding ongoing Hurricane operations!) But absolutely no reason for anyone to get their knickers in a twist for now.

Interesting looking at the charts to see in what aspects Hurricane has interacted with OGA regarding the technologies used. The interaction has not been as great as that exhibited by some other companies, but at the same time that underlines the essential simplicity of Hurricane's wells.

You'll not in my post preceding yours I quoted minimum 3K, as that would be good for 'Lancaster pressures'. Wellhead components and flowlines are probably easier 'of the shelf' to get at 5K, though, so that may be the rating. That having been said, the trees, etc. were 'long lead items', so essentially made to order.

I agree with you that on drilling rigs these days, 10K, 15K or even 20K are installed from new to cope with most possibilities. But for the Xmas trees and flowlines on Lancaster 10K would be utterly pointless overkill, and the higher the pressure rating the more expensive the kit is.

But as for pipework on the FPSO, I haven't a clue what it's rated for.

Whoops. I (and others) have looked at flowing wellhead pressures without having properly answered your question.

The wellheads and flowlines will be rated to 3000 psi minimum. I don't know the full FPSO spec, but it's quite possible that the upstream sections of the production train were built to 5000 psi, but really don't know.

Doing some rough back-of-the-fag-packet calcs, I agree with you. Well in excess of 1000psi, that's for sure. Of course we don't know GOR, so impossible to make a more accurate guess than yours, plus also FTHP will be higher with the ESP kicked in.

If you look in Hurricane's 'technical library' on the site, you'll see the time it takes for pressure to build back up after shutin. A matter of minutes, not months: one of the joys of fractured reservoirs!

Seemed like that to me, as well. Quite possible they're able to equalise pressure wellhead / flowline prior to opening up via the pigging loop, though.

We were writing at the same time. Yes, agree with you when you put it like that. Not 'gas shows' as such, but an analysis of what there is at (temporary) TD marking the gas horizon.

OK, I'll buy that scenario. I don't know the well 'architecture', but strongly suspect they'll drill to the gas 'pay', and if not actually test it immediately, at least run logs including MDT before deepening to the oil target. That would be RNS'able, giving some sort of quantifiable data about what's been found. Reporting gas shows detected at the flowline sensor while drilling down to the gas 'pay' would be pretty meaningless, though.

I don't believe any company is obliged to RNS gas shows during drilling. Reaching TD and commencing testing is usually RNS'd, then results of the test.

In terms of 'drawing the herd in', yes some interim updates might do that a bit. But personally I don't like 'interim updates' while a well is drilling. (Not to be confused with today's RNS, which is an 'interim update' of a different sort.

One company that became infamous about 'drilling updates' was SOU. It was almost as though the Toolpusher couldn't take a leak without an RNS being published about it. But then bam! A well turned out to be a duster and the SP fell off a cliff.

(I never invested in SOU, by the way: just looked at it and the BB for 'entertainment').

In fact I myself mooted that idea here about a week ago, suggesting such a test may have been done while the boat was in the Firth, waiting for the replacement rope. And using the Grampian Sovereign as a 'tanker'. At least the hose reeling system could be mechanically checked like this, and no doubt the hose itself has already been static pressure-tested.

It was merely a wayward thought: a guess. But strikes me as completely feasable.

Glad you found it on google, 'cos that saves me a bit of explaining! There are other ways of 'bringing a well in', such as running small-diameter 'coiled tubing' and pumping nitrogen, but that's a lot more expensive and complicated.
