I'm not an FPSO production operator, though I've set foot on a couple of those ugly vessels in my time. So no 'expert'. But I don't have to be.

'Commissioning' is in progress. So every step forward will be (so far as the production crew is concerned) a 'milestone passed'. But nothing RNS-able, because they're just steps on the way to FoiL.

Essentially, as soon as the first well is put on line, there will be a couple of hours of 'cleanup', during which there will be whatever has been in the 2.5km of subsea flowline being displaced (probably 'inhibited seawater') and some 'completion fluid' from the well. These will be diverted for treatment and probably then overboard dump. But about the first stages in the production train are the separators, which (as the name suggests) separate oil from water, and oil from gas. Water (again) for treatment and overboard dump, and gas to the flare, initially, until there's enough to power one of the turbines. But as soon as oil hits the separators, it will go to the FPSO's tanks, regardless of flowrate, oil/water ratio, etc..

Nowhere else for it to go. Can't be dumped overboard, and the flare setup on the FPSO is not the same as a DST: oil can't go up that mast to be burned.

In short (précis of basic 7th grade lesson), as soon as hydrocarbons (in liquid form) hit the production train, they're routed to the storage tanks onboard.

Ricfle wasn't an engineer. Nor was Carnegie. PiJoe IS an engineer, but not in the oilfield.

And anyway, the word 'bullying' doesn't exist in the oilpatch lexicon. Sure, if someone bigger than you hits you around the head with a 48-inch pipewrench it might count as that, especially if he's bigger than you, but (a) you probably had it coming and (b) you'd probably be using rather stronger words than 'bully' afterwards.

Furthermore there's an ancient old oilfield drilling saying about the 'three things which f***ed-up the oilpatch'. Namely 'O' rings, engineers, and wireline'.

SotB will hopefully back me up on the existence of that phrase. There was a later addition of 'realtime Schlumberger satellite links relaying slip-stick data from the LWD' but at least that could be sabotaged, whereas murdering engineers could get you into real trouble.

The fact that I happen to agree with you is neither here nor there...

In fact, an odd thought occured to me yesterday while stuck in a long tailback just south of Bordeaux on the motorway yesterday. One of those situations. Being stuck in a traffic-jam is a great time to let one's mind wander and mull over things. Just shove the thing into lowbox and idle along at 0.5 km/hr (to the great annoyance of people behind slipping their clutch), hardly ever having to stop. A bit like being able to have good thoughts when taking a shower, which is another completely mindless activity.

I was thinking about the post-FoiL timeline regarding the ramp-up to full stable flow, averaging 17,000 Bpd. And suddenly wondered if that agian might not be a typically-Hurricane 'conservative estimate'. Like why 2 months at 8000 bpd, two at 12,000, and then two more at 17,000 before saying all systems are well and truly 'go'? Sure, there is data-gathering to be done, but it occured to me (with the Streetwalkers Live album playing loud on my stereo) that the spin-out timewise doesn't make sense, and that ramp-up might be faster than 'prognosed'. Especially given likely POO.

No. I'm now inclined to think that 'Monster Rabbit out of the hat time' will be more like September. On or around St Leger's day, perhaps?

I'll second that! My initial investment was at 17p, managed (through some hairaising trading) to recoup my initial, made some nice profits when it spiked above 65 two years ago, and looking good (though frustratingly stable) right now as well!

Off the top of my head (can't be bothered to go find the RNS), Nigwit's favorite company Crystal Amber made eleven million profit through trading HUR last financial year.

...I mentioned the 'decorated' Grotte Cosquer close to Marseilles where the entrance is now 25m below sea level. Anomals figure predominantly in prehistoric painted caves, and of course (lacking David Attenbrough TV shows) the artists painted the animals they saw around them. Such as... reindeer, mammoths, and bears. Plus in fact Cosquer contains the only known prehistoric depiction of a penguin.

So mankind has known (and survived) serious climate change in the past.

Personally I don't inhabit the climate change 'denial' camp, although I remain more than sceptical about the anthropogenic theories. Sure, great changes have taken place at the same time as increased use of fossil fuels. But haven't these people heard of coincidence?

Also I remain very sceptical that any 'switch' to 'green' energy (which won't happen overnight) will reverse a process already in progress.

A further thing which raises my suspicions greatly is that the only populations being forced to address such emmissions 'problems', at great expense and to the detriment of individual wallets, are those of the Western Democratic Capitalist Nations.

PS As a related aside, some one mentioned 'peak oil' here the other day. 'Peak Oil' is a fully debunked myth which originated in the early seventies. Like most myths (Easter Bunny, workable cols fusion, Elvis on the Moon, etc.) it doesn't exist.

Yes, that's a good description! I clicked the link but gave up quickly, because it's too much like two fishwives nattering over the fence. Except for one small phrase Malcy uttered, saying that he thought the recent 'doldrums' might be in part explained by people who 'know Hurricane' have now pretty much filled their positions, and are simply waiting.

That idea has occured to me as well, and in fact it aptly decribes what I'm doing personally. Just holding, and waiting for the big news which will surely come soon.

Firstly, to give you some context...

This is my first 'login' for a good 48 hours, 'cos I've had more important things to do. Like driving 400 miles for the first race in the 'camioncross' season, involving a stupendous poker-game at Canet-Plage on Friday night, and generally having fun. And survived it, despite a massive bruise on my left arm due to being hit by a wayward wheel-nut, but that's just part of the course doing closup trackside photography. Good fun in good company, all I've got to do now is drive the 400 miles back home & etc..

But trawling through all these posts, I'm sorry to say I think you're wrong in the above-quoted phrase.

I see no similarity between Albi1 and Nigwit. Even if they might bring up 'climate change' stuff every now and again.

Also, I think you should research further about Crystal Amber, especially given other posts recently from daltry et al.

RB (CEO of CA) bought into HUR very early. And it has to be admitted (however grudgingly) that without that early investment, Hurricane may never have made it to where they are now. But CA is not an 'investment' company, it's a 'trading' company, whose sole interest is in its own profits, without a care in the world about other investors nor anything like that.

But with enough 'clout' (in terms of percentage of shares held in the company) to be able to significantly affect the SP via their trades.

And with enough 'media clout' and tame hacks to shamelessly badmouth the hand which feeds them when it works to their advantage.

But that's the way it is, and no amount of talk on these BB's will change it. I personally consider CA to be a thorn in every PI's side regarding this share, and without that company's trading activities the SP would probably be running in the mid 60's by now, rather than the mid-40's as at present.

However, still just sitting tight, H1 is far from finished yet, there's lots going on, and of course there's the AGM to come, and I think there'll be 'triple whammy' news announced then.

PS What's with all this 'climate change' stuff? Personally I like warm weather. And just to put that into perspective, one of the most fascinating 'painted caves' (the paintings dating from about 17,000 years ago) is the Grotte Cosquer, not far from Marseilles. The entrance to it is about 20m below current sea-level, and prehistoric man didn't have scuba gear. We'll survive. Just not all of us, maybe, but who cares about that, really?

I would agree with Persimmon's reply, but in this instance only in a very specific way. You asked to what extent the 90m of payzone exceeded expectations, and what those expectations may have been.

I have never worked on an oilwell where a company publicised a specific expected payzone depth, or at least, not for an offset appraisal well. Onsite there will be stratigraphic logs obtained from other offset wells, and thus the sequence in which various different formations may be found. But where on one well the pay may only be 10 metres thick, on another it may be 50.

It is not a negative point that such prognoses are not published. In fact one whould beware of companies that do so, because they are often wrong. For instance where they've prognosed (and published) a certain payzone thickness, thus getting shareholders all excited (to the benefit of the SP), just to find that yes, that stratigraphic layer has been found but no, it contains water, not oil, and thus can't be considered 'payzone' at all. I can name one or two 'popular' AIM O&G outfits that have done this: how about you?

Bet it'll still go into the report as 19:00. But that's annoying as well. Maybe they'll round it down to 18:00, which is fine.

Most companies define spud as when the bit goes through the table, but I've met some where it's when the bit tags. Others (with a pre-driven conductor) when the bit goes out of the shoe, which is a weird one, because it can mean the hole actually starts 100 ft below ground level or seabed!

OK, I'll accept that in principle. But over what timeframe? And surely that's contingent upon the company becoming profitable.

I'd argue that the measure of a good CEO is NOT to ramp the shareprice so that speculative shareholders (ie most of US!) can make quick profits through trading while the project is still in the development stage.

Let's not forget that Hurricane's CEO is a shareholder himself.

Also let's not forget that the institutions which raised the half billion in 2017 are already showing a near-30% paper profit on their investment already...
