I think the logic is that buybacks are more optional, and further tranches can not be launches as conditions permit, where as a div increase can't be wound back without absolutely hammering the SP.

At some point the Value re £750m Annual Share buyback vs increasing the dividend will start to shift.

If Tesco diverted all of the £750m to dividend on a 6.2b Share count / then that would allow 12% on top of current 4% dividend.

Now I’m not saying Shareholders will see that 12% but there is certainly headroom for future dividend appreciation, whilst at the same time reducing debt on the balance sheet.

No wonder Deutsche Bank go £5.25. And then some…

4 years on the Share count has for the first time gone below 6,300,000,000

Bodes well next 12 Month. I have found in past that Deutsche Bank (Not easy to spell) are fairly accurate with their 12 month SP predictions and they tend not to exaggerate.

Also / aggressive 6m Shares buyback yesterday. This second Tranche won’t last long at that rate from Santander. £4:40 seems to be the new bottom then.
