Tate & Lyle Share Price (TATE)

I'm fairly new to investing and I'm looking for companies to buy and hold long-term (10+ years) that have a good chance of beating the wider market. Initially TATE stuck me as a stable and progressive company with a solid track record of paying dividends. I'm aware it divested away from it's sugar business a long time ago and I've done some crude calculations on what an investor 10 years ago would have if they had held until today. A £1,000 buy in 2014 would be worth around £1,295 today, with all dividends reinvested and taking into account the stock split in 2022. That's actually behind inflation.

I think this business will continue to develop and will be around for a long time but i'm struggling to make an investment case beyond it hitting £8+ within the next couple of years. Perhaps i'm missing something as I am only looking at the raw historic numbers but has anyone here been a long-term holder with great success?

We all know that the future is very bright here but would we benefit from a rebrand? 14 years on and people still think we are a sugar company on the decline. TBH, that has suited me as I think it has contributed to me building a position on the cheap, but now my position is built, I do wonder whether a rebrand might help the price up to where it should be?

Think Mr market was bit on the slow side this morning bought my 3rd lot this morning after these results and forward outlook onwards and up.

Tate sold the sugar business in 2010

Seems a bit low, considering it was a record sugar crop this season Oct/March. Maybe still processing it all.
