5 weeks behind? I closely monitor the Lancet as I believe the BBC (Bullsh*t Broadcast News) gives a negative view on everything. It could be sunny outside and the BBC will still focus on saying its not going to last long. ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 is the effort from Oxford and the trials are being documented very well, it was only earlier today during an interview Dr Maheshi Ramasamy stated the results are very promising in P3 of the development trials. The interview was via Oxford official news press release and ends with promising news that in coming weeks they will release data showing efficacy rates. This will bring the uptick for sure. AstraZeneca will ensure that their efforts are published on the best platform and I would guess BoJo will comment on such news via a broadcast as this is his project. Giving Oxford Ac. & AstraZeneca the best light will be part of a Brexit strategy too, leaders in global pharmaceuticals.
There was no hoped-for jump in prices after Oxford vaccine news to-day, the Oxford vaccine being the one we can get the most of, because all the news told us is that they are about five weeks behind everybody else, so that takes us to after Christmas.
So keep getting the Marston's bottles in, lads, there are plenty in every supermarket. Are there any distillers or wine merchants that Marston's have an interest in?
The Spanish variant of Covid we have already, it was spread to all the richer countries in Europe by idiot returning holidaymakers.
The Danish Mink variety is hopefully thought to be extinct already, thankfully, because those same idiot holidaymakers had probably put Denmark on their wish-list for a winter break.
I agree with FD that your purchase was at the uptick momentum whilst most are prepping for pull triggers. The rest are in the Long Term (LT) strategy and have been in for quite sometime. What I would say is don't let todays poor trading reflect on the long term look depending on what strategy made your decision from your research shown that this is for sure a Long Term. We only joined in early March but my brother wants ST and I wanted LT (ongoing debate) so we are all at varying levels. If its any warmth, the release of Oxford joint effort are very close to releasing data sets (I think it will be before the 2nd Dec lockdown date) via public platform very similar to Pfizer then moderna this will for sure create an added boost that will hopefully add value to the price.
Joe you have probably bought at the top of the current uptrend. Be prepared for re-trenchment especially when the annual accounts are announced in 3 weeks.
Still can't conceal my disappointment buying a load of these last night at 70 only to see such a depressing decline today, hopefully some good news on the way
Good point about taxes, indeed, the treasury will need the money after this year!
IMO and I will probably get shot down in flames, Society is not disciplined and what ever form of lockdown is used, there will always be those who will ignore. Regrettably it is not just the young who ignore but now older generations who have got tired of Lockdown and just want to live whether it means death or not. Many I know are saying, this is no life just get on with it and to hell with the consequences....no one can live forever!! The colateral damage is becoming far worse than Covid. Now we are hearing of a CV19 variant, coming out of Spain, which is far more virulent.
People now should be wise enough to take their own precautions and act accordingly and allow life to get back to some form of normality.
Poleaxe me now for my views!!!
I personally cannot see a large extension of lockdown, maybe at most a push to the right in days purely down to timings so they can implement a better structural tier system. If we take the approach of the Jocks that will allow more areas to open in a phased approach. Still alot of areas in England are not complying and still roaming around with endless reports of pubs open serving cans with curtains shut to the passing public (Blackburn) also a news report saying a wedding took place with over 30+ guests (again Blackburn) so with a tiered system punish those in the areas that break and those in areas with very low % rates allow to continue with levels of freedom. The revenue through taxes in Dec is a large pot that cannot just hemorrhage away so I personally feel a very large extension will not be permitted. With Furlough in place till March this helps out massively but only short term. All IMO that is.
Have you or anyone wondered why the Furlough period has been extended to end of March???
Hi all, just wanted to get some opinions on whether people think lockdown will be extended in December as I know it could be a make or break thing for stocks. MARS and the like will benefit greatly over the xmas period yet they may struggle to even survive an extended lockdown.
What do people think?
Hopefully the xmas period will be a god send for many pubs, particularly as I think more people than ever will be out celebrating xmas this year after yet another lockdown
The Beer and Innkeerers association along with The British Institute of Brewing and Hospitality have just issued a report following a poll of their Members. The report states 72% of Members are working at a loss and do not expect to suvive.
This is a very worrying report and hope to hell it does not come about, however even more stimulation for Marstons to re-invent the Business model as I have been suggesting for many months. Marstons cannot afford to lose that many Pubs otherwise the JV will be breached.
I am holding strong, good news and end of lockdown to come, I have faith lol
Yes I agree. Looking tired now. Just sold.
I think the real rise will come when they actually reopen in December
maybe taking a breather now, the vaccine news was a major factor but that effect has worn off so now we’re waiting on news of actual deployment, especially for the one requiring minus 80C transportation- new to the NHS on such a scale.
We’ve had a pretty good rise of late so
Hoped this hasn't roofed, thought momentum would continue today... maybe it was a bad idea buying in at 70p when it could go back down to 60 *doh!
Indeed the typo was accidental, I get the fingers typing as fast as I can as my brain (not Brian) races ahead and I'm left typing a few minutes behind my forward thinking. My only reason I joined this board which is now a source of humour was to respond to his constant remarks about Mars and have some banter which seemed to have scared him off and now he's putting all his love in to other boards (poor souls of those HOC & Co.) I remember that comedy 2 Pints of Lager and packet of crisps, however from SuperDischarger's previous posts I think he's a Pedigree drinker and as for crisps perhaps quavers so its easier to digest.
I think his reference to Boris Johnson was to keep the vulnerable indoors and protect them, pity he didn't say take the keyboards away from those that need keyboard shielding.
YoYoMa
I think the inspired typo in your "Phoenix nights" post of Brain must stay, much nicer than Brian ?
Only made enough for another Tesla then, certainly not another property in Bolton (it was Bolton wasn't it?), mark you the success he made in MARS was only enough for 2 pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, as we are on sitcoms !
Brian Potter strikes again......... awakes just before midnight for his 3rd pee of the night and is urged to have a troll on the boards. Is it me but did he say ‘my’ 73p but yet he sold out at 50p? Thankfully his advice is about as much welcomed as an umbrella in a Gale force wind.
Good to you back SC wasn’t a keen fan of your other pseudonym or did you log on to wrong account?
You are nearly at my 73p now - and Boris agrees in 10 years everyone will drive a Tesla. You will catch up one day but I will by then be long gone in my space rocket to the place where everyone sleeps.
In the meantime yes Capita has made me another Tesla as well as all of the the big banks in my Wifes name.
Shame the release the other day that MARS are seeking extra time on their loans no which means no divi for sometime yet. But we can't have everything. Glad you are still watching over me.
Glad you found the information useful. Good to have you on board. Don't forget to put in for your discount card. (500 shares minimum required). Good luck to you.
@joekenny
For that to be an accurate scenario, you would have to assume that non of the pubs that close are connected to Marstons. Be it directly tenanted in Marstons buildings, freehold venues who have tied to Marstons to obtain equipment and maintenance or ones that just stock Marstons products.
Because if a Marstons tenant goes bust and leaves a Tenancy that earns Marstons circa £80,000 a year it will take more than two or three of the customers of that venue wander into a Marstons managed pub to offset that margin.
Gradual increase or does anyone think this will recede slightly over the next few days?
SP seems to react really well to positive news so hopefully will spike again when oxford vaccine comes and lockdown ends
