Davidspellacy, I believe you can claim back from Spanish Tax Auth the IAG Spanish wht on div if you know about the required method which has to be done fairly soon after deduction
Top sluced = gotta love predictive text lol !
The DEC dividend looked pretty good when it arrived in my HL account & i wanted to buy more while DEC is still under 110p.
IMB was my largest holding even at 1450p, so with the SP over 1700p i decided to sell the capital gains profits & reinvest the money into more DEC to add a bit more balance to my income PF.
RDSB could be sliced next, But with crude approaching $90 a barrel = it may have to wait a while longer yet.
I had similar surprises over the last few years. I get paid the full amount of IMB dividends as it is registered in the UK. I got rid of my shares in TOTAL 2 years ago after finding out that the French exchequer took 30% of my dividend. I went to war with my broker (I hold most shares in a pension fund) over 30% withholding tax in DEC. I am an Irish resident. DEC is domiciled in USA so based on double taxation agreement and critically, having a W8BEN form on file, the maximum tax payable on USA dividends is 15%.
BUT that depends on residency. I'm in an Irish self-directed pension fund so I pay 15% on DEC dividends; in a UK based SIPP there is 0% div witholding tax. In summary, it depends on where the shareholder and the dividend issuing company are domiciled and on the double taxation agreements between these countries, which varies.
The final final nail I wanted to hammer home was this: DEC has a 12% yield and a previous poster implied it was not great after a 15% discount on that figure. 10% after tax is a darn good yield. IMB at 8% is great too. All above based on endless emails with my broker and on my own personal research.
I had this with IAG a couple of years ago, Spanish held 19% WHT. I did complain to HL that where there is a div yield displayed that they should also note any WHT. My responsibility to check was the response.
Found this out with Total. Looks appealing then the French hit me with the witholding tax. HL did not shown this on the website and I was none the wiser until my dividend payment was not as expected.
What about the withholding tax on the DEC divis, not quite such an appealing divi after all.
Decided to sell a few yesterday that I'd bought for 1410p & to keep the dividend payments coming in, the cash was reinvested into Diversified Energy (DEC) for the 10% yield.
Should IMB dip, I'll certainly add more again.
Yes a positive sign all tobacco stocks up this morning in the past when the market is down imb has followed
Good luck all
bucking the market this morning
Maybe good news, but also helping is a move into stocks seen as inelastic to price increases / inflation proof. More probably puffing away due to the current risks from all directions !!
Yes your right Pat I still think some good news could be coming out
Have a good weekend all
A couple of months ago this would have been down 40/50p with a 100 point fall on the FTSE
Thanks for the info somewhat premature then .Lets hope it can continue to rise until then.
ATB
Ex-div not until 17.02.22
Think you're a month early on the ex-div
limited drop ex div here is very positive for the near term. Shows that plenty of buyers are in the market
Yes CT your right it looks like the unloved sectors are coming back in favour of course the likes of Shell BP ect are cash machines at the moment and pension funds ect will be expecting some of this cash back hence the rise in the sp. I think the rise still has further to go especially imb as back in May last year the sp was 1674p before ex divi
Good luck all
Time to pour more money into these under-appreciated sectors: Oil, Tobacco, Gambling.
IMB is a screaming bargain compared to the US tobacco companies and with better divis. I expect this will equalise over the coming year. Nice! 8% divi + 50+% potential capital appreciation. 100% to catch up to the Yanks.
NICE!
There’s talk on another chat board that the Health Secretary is looking to make e cigs available on the nhs to help people quit the fags…
I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see a takeover bid one of these days.
About the only negative thing that I currently see is that the RSI is now heavily overbought (@78 on the daily chart).
@Jing72: "I agree with you sidi and the rise does seem to suggest that there could be some news on the horizon"
I could be wrong, but from the look of it, all of the tobacco companies are now rising. I don't think this rise is specific to IMB.
Oil and Banks are also rising steeply. It looks like a major shift in the markets is underway.
I took a small position here last week.
Have now done more research and from what I see, the main TOBACCO companies (MO, BATS, IMB, PM) are all rising steeply now. PM and MO are already significantly more expensive on a P/E basis, with IMB being the cheapest. I think it's time to increase my position size here. Divi looks solid if I get stuck with it.
Its people moving from growth stocks to value stocks and it will just snowball from here IMO
There seemed a few sellings after hours, one even a £1m sell order but there were also a couple of very interesting trades as well:
14-Jan-22 17:42:51 1,742.63258 10 Unknown* 174.26 O
14-Jan-22 17:42:28 1,742.63258 10 Unknown* 174.26 O
It clearly showed that someone was manipulating the SP, trying to push it up with two 10 shares buys @1742.63258p each! This looks like that next Monday/week we probably will see a new fresh high. Of course if the market continues to charge ahead.
Good luck everyone and goodnight.
