Yes your right I think market sentiment is the reason for the rise also I have noticed the sp has risen when the market has fallen. It would be nice to think other reasons to a takeover or merger would be nice but cannot see this happening it will be interesting to see what happens to the sp upto ex divi day
Have a good weekend all
Jing
Hello everyone, to me there's only one reason for this rise, which is markets sentiment: the FTSE is now over 7600, near to its all time high. Not just IMB but all other dogs are also up quite a lot of late even VOD. But the things is, will it carry on rising or will there be a correction soon? I am kind of nervous and hope that there won't be a big sudden drop and wipe off all of our hard earned gains overnight......so, fingers and toes crossed..... let's hope not.
Goodnight and have a great weekend all.
Throne - What's driving the rise above all else is the change in growth to value stocks, no doubt about it.
The big fund players see trouble ahead & want secure divi's on the table, likewise those big pension funds that need to keep the money coming in to pay people like me. I have an acquaintance that has the final say in where $2 billion worth of pension money is put. He is investing more in co's like IMB & BATS, as well as VOD & similar. All have risen exponentially recently as more fund managers change part of their holdings to value.
Yes, the dog of my portfolio has taken off like a greyhound. I'd love to know what's driving this; maybe it is indeed PI's hedging against inflation, maybe it's the run up to the large quarterly divi payment (but if that's the case why not the same last Nov?). Or maybe it is some other factor - for example that Billionaire investor who has been reportedly accumulating a stake in both IMB and BATS; perhaps adding more and not revealed to the market yet. Whichever, I personally think that the 'divi dodge' strategy looks too dangerous on this occasion! I have been tempted to sell over the last few days but I have psychologically glued my itchy fingers to the table! Requires a decision: Am I a trader or a long term investor? I choose the latter and hope I'm right!
the continued upward momentum.
Another rise this morning if it hits 1800p + divi dodge is looking good
Interesting article in telegraph last week broker's report a surge in pi buying bat's imb to hedge against inflation maybe this the reason for the surge in the sp
The £38 share price was flattered somewhat by the Brexit vote (pound to dollar) currency exchange rate in the aftermath of the vote and that price probably won’t be revisited but yes, these look cheap.
was over £38 nearly 5 years ago
This stock is CHEAP - was £32 four years ago
profit after tax 2017 - £ 1.447 Billion
profit after tax 2021 - £ 2.907 Billion
In the last 50 trades shown on here 90% were auto trades, so I don’t think the bots were buying for the divi
Seems to be undergoing a bit of a rerating . Strong broker ratings including one today . I think I will be holding for the div and beyond
If this price reflects people buying for the divi next week it doesn't make sense - this is the second of what I would call the two outsize quarterly payments. We didn't see this kind of action in advance of the previous one last November! So that theory doesn't wash with me.
So who is buying and why?!
Think you all in for a windfall here .. I’ve just sold my 2199 @1784 .. it’s bound to rise
Thronegames
Yes will let you know what I do at the moment I'm thinking it might be on
Good luck
Jing
Jing, let us know if you go ahead with the divi trade.; your sell and buy prices and your costs. I for one would be interested to know how it works out. Ex div season is fast approaching and I have switched funds into my share dealing account to take advantage . PSN is screaming at me to buy with yield at 10% after recent steep drop. Seems overdone. Also on my radar are MNG, LGEN, POLY AND RIO. Also I may add significantly to my IMB holding, although it may be weak for the Summer months given that the next two big quarterlies kick off again at the latter end of the year.
Defo snakes and ladders game lol
Nice finish for the week I'm thinking people buying for the divi I am fifty fifty in my thinking of doing the divi dodge
Good luck all
It worked for me a couple of times with BP, enabled me to increase my holding there but I won't be trying it with IMB.
I'm glad I did with BP as it's flying now & that makes up for what I'm down here.
Snakes & ladders this old share game.

taylco you are right...."divi dodge" is a special lingo invented on this board and it means selling as the SP increases before ex div date, waiting for the SP to drop after the ex div date (by more than the divided amount) and then buying again at a lower price. Yes we know, we know...trading costs etc. It has worked for some in the past. Not for me - at least this time around!
Please excuse my ignorance guys but was is a divi dodge? Surely you hold until ex divi date, not sell beforehand.
It didn't work last time around IMO due to upward SP momentum. For the SP to fall more than the dividend amount there needs to be a large queue of people wanting to sell and just waiting to lock in the divi before doing so. I know the SP is off its recent highs but the overall trend has been upwards, therefore I can't see the SP dropping by much more than the divi amount. I haven't traded this around the divi and I'm happy to stay holding for the forseeable. Even when I have traded divi on other shares my results were mixed. Too little reward for the risk, IMHO.
I previously said if the sp went above 1700p I would not dodge this divi but it now seems to be on a slow decline from its high of 1750p ish so a dodge may be on
Decisions decisions......
I do so enjoy watching the div dodgers at work - It's not for me but I wish them well, more than one way to skin the proverbial.
Interesting this time around, IMB are on an upward trend right now and the Omicron outbreak came to their rescue last time
Looks like some are leaving the party already......but I am not so sure what to do yet.......lol
Clued.
I know that I can put a claim in but it’s purely my own fault for not checking out the WTH prior to investing, I haven’t made that mistake again. You
Getting close to the next divi is the dodge on or not????
