@Coronation, I am not quite with your statement that it's a "blessing" to pay tax on dividends. Stating the obvious, when a share goes xd, the sp is immediately reduced by the value of the div. That's not an issue because xd + div = previous sp. However, when the div is now taxed, the formula no longer holds and the investment is worth less.
Europe has a 30% witholding tax, enough to give the UK bad ideas ...
Helpful reminder coronation, it's an interesting one as I've been trading with standard fund & share acct... monthly/annual fees for holding an open stocks & shares ISA, plus the faff of calculations and moving it now and then to get a decent deal, have previously not been worth the faff esp for those who don't trade sums which attract taxation. However, the lower thresholds may now make the stocks and shares ISA more favourable... DYOR
Just a gentle reminder that the Tax Free Allowance on Dividends falls again this week to £500 - a £4.5k fall since 2016. As shares held in an ISA are tax free it MAY be prudent to ensure your allowance has been used for this year too.
Paying Tax on Dividends is of course a blessing as it means you have made a profit - but a tax free profit is a double blessing.
GLA .
This may be of use, basic but might help. No advice given or intended lol.

BT should say BeeTee
Aus I appreciate your concern and agree with what you are saying
Which is why it is to BT and my benefit the posts were deleted, even though Fleccy did nothing wrong.
It was BeeTee who divulged a bit too much, perhaps.
I am careful but prefer the posts are gone.
I do / did look up the tax allowances online on gov site but wasn’t quite sure about dividends outside an isa above £500, and income tax under £12750 without an income.
I didn’t post my exact dividends, or any other specifics of my circumstances.
All Fleccy did was clarify what the gov site said and my own interpretation. I’m not completely novice myself and nor do I take what Fleccy or anyone else here says as gospel. Even though I appreciate their posts.
Abject - even a professional doesn’t tell you what to do with your money. At the end of the day you have to do that, rightly so in my opinion.
Be careful out the on the wild, west web. You literally have no idea who anyone is. Except for NDN who stalks me and knows who I am and thinks he has a right to not respect my privacy. But that’s a different story I guess.
It’s really not difficult to look up unearned income on the uk government website. They even have calculators you can use or get an individual quote. The best advice is for you to look this up, or to help you look this up if needs be. Any other advice forces you to divulge far too much personal info or accept far too much influence / opinion.
It’s really none of my business or anyone else’s on this “public board”. But if you were to ask, that would be my advice :). With your best interests at heart.
Aus he didn’t tell us what to do , he just stated facts about how the tax allowances work.
Aus I simply contributed to the conversation. I've previously done my own self assessments as required and in previous years, before completing the online Self Assessment, I've correctly calculated any taxes and rebates due. It isn't Rocket Science to work out your taxable income and allowances.
Fleccy - I don’t think it counts if you say “you’re not giving financial advice” & then add lots of messages, all giving financial advice.
It’s the same with unintentional investment advice repeated infinitum.
You could have just asked everyone to look up unearned income & left it at that
Fleccy , assuming it was removed as construed as financial advice then it’s best removed .
But yes I agree with you it wasn’t and you stated that.
I made it clear that I wasn't giving financial advice, so it can't have been removed for anything I said. Abject, why is it "better if it’s removed from public viewing now".
Probably just removed because it was construed as financial advice. Personally I don’t mind as I read the advice Fleccy gave and it’s better if it’s removed from public viewing now.
Can’t see it being reported by Mandy tbh
So why have they taken the posts down for Sat/Sun and today?
Could it be because financial advice was being given , or has someone taken them down ( a bitter and twisted saboteur that lost all his money on BT shares , maybe)
Last green post didn’t last long
Rod if that was your last post then this site will be a much duller and boring place, Theres only one thing worse that being talked about and thats not being talked about.
Continue to brighten every ones days with your well thought out posts and if any one does not want to read your posts then thats up to them, good luck and good ribbons springs to mind.
Who would have thought it . Mandy has finally come out of the closet , at the age of 87.

Thank god for green filter
I thought this thread was about the Class Action, for a minute I thought I was on the Lloyds chat page.
Bertram - thanks for your measured kind response.
I have to reply because I think it’s disingenuous to “say you can agree to disagree”
You can’ t disagree with something we both known is true. We know about the chaos and corruption within the Tory party &’we know about the low lifes who have taken seats (30p Lee et’al). We also know about the despicable people in the reform party, racism, division, foreign money & ridiculous agendas.
Voting for these parties isn’t a blind choice or difference of opinion. You vote for these people because you want division, chaos, corruption, an end to the nhs and removal of a kinder society.
I don’t mean to be controversial, but I can’t leave this unsaid. It’s why uk is going down the tubes, where voters get away with sweetening their choices with ideas of differing opinions , alternative facts or even sunlit uplands.
Populism is as old as democracy, anyone who votes for it knows exactly what they are getting & should be honest about it. IMO.
Regarding your Election Forecast.
If the Conservatives wished to win the forthcoming Election and I am not sure they do, they should take note of the 1 in 4 satisfaction survey in The NHS this week.
The failed attempt to buy votes with the second 2% cut in NI and proposed third one should be quickly reversed and the money pumped into our wonderful Health Service.
A bit of compassion to an under funded over stretched Health Service would in my very humble opinion start a turn around in the Conservative Parties fortunes and prospects.
Regarding BT I am anticipating a visible upturn when our second quarters figures are published in September and the new Lady at the Helm has had chance to show her intended direction.
Good Luck all and Happy Easter.
Happy Easter to you to. Enjoy and chill.
Addendum, do you actually believe mands what we scribe will make any difference?
Mandy , I agree with you on most political things. Woke is ruining the country. Starmer was the lawyer who took the labour party to court and won in 2010. meaning we have to pay illegals benefits.
But its your confrontational nature that spoils the BB. I can agree to disagree with Aus, leave politics alone and just wish to read about BT updates / news.
Up . Nice!
