t4g, all of that is true and i am not trying to turn the clock back, all i am saying is that the "high st" is going to evolve into something, how that will affect on line enterprises such as BH I don't know.

The HS was ripe for collapse as it was priced out of its own market through overheads.

For instance what if there was a 10% surcharge tax on all internet shopping? what then?

If the govt, any govt, takes a view that the high st. is worth saving for its social benefits as well as the large vested interests involved , then who knows.

just too many uncertainties to look long term for me.

SCB, the thing to keep in mind is that people want to have fun. Internet shopping is convenient for many including buying clothes but its not fun, its a convenience thing.

Shopping as a social enterprise plus having the goods immediately adds to the enjoyment.

High streets became dull and all looked the same. And expensive for the retailers. Online to the rescue.

Will it just remain the same... not likely. How will it evolve... don't know. How will this affect BH (because thats all that matters on this BB) I don't know...(When i say i don't know I understand none of us can fortel the future, but I just can see every option equally, booming, shrinking, biting off more they can chew, slower growth, stagantion, etc etc.

Short term fine, find a support, buy in get out 1-4 weeks later but long term, real crapshoot. just my opinion

High streets were popular in their hey day due to the variety of them. Then in the 80's as people became better off and shopped more landlords and councils cashed in and rents and rates soared and every high street looked the same as the small independent could not compete. Change the business model (ie overheads) and who knows what will happen?

I am not doing a kallu here but simply staying that competition, as Pedro points out will increase both on and off line and for me the story is unfolding still, its not done yet, but I can't see who the winners will be longer term. thast all.

t4g, I don't think its that complicated actually.

If (and its a big if), high streets become attractive places to go (for whatever reason), new business will open on the back of its coat tails. Even if it goes over to just coffee houses and eateries, you will start to get ancillary shops open around them to try and exploit what ever demographic is attracted to the new look high street.

The key is the business model: Rent and rates have for decades been out of kilter with turnover unless you are either hugely popular or a very large company with multiple sits and scale of production advantages.

If rent and rates become attactive then who knows how it will pan out.

Online isn't going anywhere but the high st, for want of a better term is not dead yet either. (imo)

It might not. US court case?, fall in demand? extra costs through wages and transportation and cost of material, grated competition?

(The "sell your used clothes" apps are aimed at younger buyers, will that have an effect? I don't know but I struggle seeing most companies prospects long term.)

Many of course will prosper but many won't, goodness knows which ones will and which ones won't.

If the buyers would just stop trying to force the SP down and the seller's' could have a scintilla of a backbone we would all be laughing by now.

At some stage one or the other will win out:

Currently buyers won't pay more than 200p. The sellers cravenly give in and sell. But these new owners of stock won't be selling yet as they have only just got in. So if sellers still want to sell and we run out of buyers at 200p, then the stock will fall to a lower level to tempt in a new cohort of buyers.

Conversely of course if all the 200p sellers have finished then new buyers will have to pay over 200p to tempt a new bunch of sellers at a higher price (249p)

This why it is intriguing and dare iI say it, exciting, when you get to these key support/resistance levels.

Max, thats fine and you could well be right.

But here's the kicker: Couldn't you have expressed exactly the same sentiment just 6 months ago when the SP was around 350p?

Thats fair enough Rag, i just can't "see" where this one is going, which in my terms makes it far too high a risk.

Short term its under pressure but at some stage that will stop . It might stop here at 180p and be a great entry point or it might fall to 150p before it stabilises , who knows.

Long term, too many variables (for me)

I'm not denying any of that, I am just trying to see where BH specifically fit in going forward from where they are now over the next 3-5 years.

However I don't think the high street is dead. I think it will change and right now because of covid, we can't make any judgement yet of how that might manifest itself.
