Let's be clear, there wasn't 'an offer' for THG. No offer was made because MM refused to open the books.

In short, I'm doubting that the so-called 'strong and stable' insurance business that was supposed to protect us from the cyclicality of the cruise business is doing its job atm.

I also enjoyed Alnwick's analysis - very good.
Where I would take issue (and this is obviously a matter of opinion) is his "really prudent" 20% profitability cut on the insurance side. I don't think it's enough. The Sabre results suggest higher cost pressures than that and I wouldn't be surprised if insurance is only breaking-even atm.

Today it's down to a trading update from Made.com. Anything consumer focussed, especially if it's a recent IPO, is taking a hit.

"To enable us to continue executing on our strategy we're... considering options to allow us to strengthen the balance sheet sufficiently to navigate what will undoubtedly continue to be challenging conditions."
Says it all.
What was the IPO price in June 2021? 200p. And the capital raise price? 20p?

It may be lazy and irresponsible but I believe it's profit accretive.
If Boohoo loses some customers doing this, they were probably the unprofitable/low value ones anyway.
If they 'greenwash' it, all the better.

I think some of the sanctions will be lifted as part of a peace deal - Russia will demand that - however, beyond that I don't disagree: Russia will not enjoy the kind of trade access it used to pre-war... companies simply won't go there, at least until Putin's gone... and maybe not even then.

Don't think so - I believe the company is well funded following the capital raise.
As said, today's drop is contamination from the Sabre results because Saga writes motor insurance.

From what I can see the issue is margin pressure - sales are ok.
Guess that means lower profitability and less cash earnings for a while.
Therefore, how strong is the balance sheet? What's their net cash and did they take on too much debt with the recent acquisitions?
This is probably a great entry price IF they can get thru this period without a capital raise.

I see that online only 'one stop shop' building materials supplier CMO Group plc, which IPO'd a year ago, tanked 52% today on consumer weakness and margin pressures.
I appreciate the company is not a simple comparator for SIG, but still....worrying times ahead?
