Not helping the sector is news of retailers looking to raise capital to bolster the b/sheet. Last week AO. (they did raise at a deeply discounted share price) and today JOUL. Likely to be more.

Makes a lot of sense. Especially for BOO. Am I right in thinking returns on U.S. sales are shipped back to the U.K?

A donkey of a Trust and an unmitigated disaster for all concerned.
Today this broke 20p to sell and is now very close indeed to the all-time lows of March 2020.
To imagine this opened at 100p in April 2015... I can't offhand think of any Investment Trust that has performed worse.

Now that I've got a fuller picture about his selling, I quite agree.
Totally reasonable for him to cash in in an orderly way, especially since he hadn't sold any shares from flotation in 2014 through to when he made the announcement in April.

A.Jones, thank you. Well, 5% of a 22% stake is approx 1% of the company. If he sells 1% of the company per year, that's a manageable amount - not too much of an overhang - as it would (theoretically) take him 22 years to sell the lot.

Did the founder provide any commentary or give specific reasons as to why he wants to sell his shares?
Is it your understanding that he wishes to dispose of his entire holding (currently 22% I think) bit by bit?

Well, I'm buying. My 3rd purchase, this morning, 72.1p paid.
I've now reached my limit for this kind of share.
I like the management team, they are entrepreneurial and, as I see it, the divi reduction is to provide ammo for them to make well-priced acquisitions of distressed consumer companies.
Happy to mount the saddle and enjoy this ride!

Yes there is that structural change to online.
Post covid, the company now sells considerably more than pre-pandemic. That's the meaningful comparison.
There is a life cycle for white goods, meaning they need replacing regardless and AO is the 'go to' provider with v high customer satisfaction levels.
Company is moving into selling associated goods - internet of things is a structural tailwind for years to come.
The founder is a respected and talented retailer, AO is his baby, his life's work, and he has a big stake.
Price is dirt cheap right now, so the value is there.
