since my last post here, which was clearly hopelessly optimistic, but there does now seem to be momentum again in the share and support from some analysts that the sector will outperform the market.

considering the difficult market circumstances. Earnings per share at a little over 19c is down on last year but still respectable in relation to the share price. Debt to equity ratio at a little over 10% is also reassuring given the problems of a few years ago but more importantly there is spare capacity in the agreed finance position to cover any short term cash flow problems . No dividend this year is only sensible given the problems in the market. Given the uncertainties in the oil exploration market I would expect the price of this share to improve only slowly but potential for 2017/18 is clearly there if the oil price recovers to about $50. Surely the Saudis will have punished the US frackers enough by then!

Well Wolverine, the share price has gone up 8p since your post, so perhaps there is another view out there.

as it seems to be doing yesterday and this morning, then we can expect to return to the 1500s next week which is where we were before all this began. Until the market's petit mal this week, expectations were that we were on our way back up possibly to £20. We might need a bit of good news to get ourselves back on this trajectory

The DOW went back up yesterday after dragging European indexes down during their late trading. It finished about 1.5% down. Tokyo and Sydney are also a little down in Thursday trading. I think today may see a smaller fall or even a modest increase. Nearly all shares go down during a panic sell off, but when there is a small recovery only the best shares go back up. I think GFRD is in this category and I am expecting a return to the 1400s tomorrow or by the then end of the week at least.

and the prospect of new orders has increased as I suggested it would. If oil falls below $50 then I expect LAM to retrace.

continuing my last post ....!!! makes a difference to the chances of new orders given the costs of extraction in the area using sea rigs. Nicely up today, but not quite there, and the share price seems also to be responding

On its way back to the 120s as I hopefully suggested a while ago. Continuing uncertainty about the oil price will probably limit its rise for the time being however. A medium hold should bring some returns beyond the current recovery IMO

A good reponse today from oilies to the recovering oil price, but Lamprell are well above average at 5.25% for the day as I write. We are moving back into territory where a reasonable profit can be made on long term offshore investment in Lamprell's area of operations. LAM has been a rather quiet share just recently as long term holders lick their wounds stoically, but we are now getting definite buying interest. I am sticking to my view that we will be back in the 120s in the near future

It would be interesting to know the relative profit margins on re-furb vs new build

As the oil price stabilises a little, and people reflect on who the real losers are from the oil price crash, LAM is now showing good signs of recovery. Profits will be lower, but the business is not in danger, I anticipate a recovery of the share price into the 120s in the immediate future. The current price has not been seen since the profit warnings and losses of a couple of years ago. We are clearly in a better position than we were then.

A good upward surge in the first hour of trading today - almost 1.5% at one point, so I think perhaps it was just resting after all. I think I will hold for a little longer

Galliford Try has shot up recently in response to newspaper share tippers pointing out it excellent rate of return (see posts below). Together with the rest of the FTSE, this week and last have been a bit tougher. When the current volatility settles down (oil price, autumn statement, Chinese problems etc) I would expect it to resume its upward path as it is still well below its 2014 peak and reperesents a very healthy dividend return on cpaital

Lamprell's has been pulled down with oil shares as oil prices fall, but the oil price has yet to fall to levels below off-shore full cost per barrel in its region. Each time the oil price falls, Lamprells drops but then slowly recovers. It has a reasonably good order book, and a fallback role in service and re-fitting. Its finances have been turned around over the last couple of years. This share should gradually drift back up to the 140s and provided the oil price stabilises, may continue to rise towards 200 (as some analysts suggest) during the course of next year.

I bought these shares for two reasons. Firstly I was impressed with the way Galliford Try dealt with the 2007 crash, and secondly I think the recovery , when it comes properly, will be led in part by construction and and housing. I suspect most people holding these shares are in it for the same long term reasons - hence it doesn't attract the chat from more speculative or chartist contributors that I find on other shares I am interested such as Centamin.
