In my view orders may start to come through on the bid pipeline in the near future, and given Lamprell's now solid financial position, this share is overdue an upgrade. Lets get solidly over £13 first! Not very clear why GFRD is down today after infrastructure intent expressed at the Conservative conference. Possibly it has to do with the implied interest rate rise in May's speech which could affect private sector housing. Still, my mining shares are doing very well so I can't complain

The increase in the oil price is obviously good for LAM. I used to post that an oil price in the fifties was necessary for new offshore exploration in the Middle East. The rise in the value of the dollar probably means that we are back in profitable territory for LAM's region. The downside is the means by which the increase in oil prices is being achieved is a return to OPEC output restrictions. Since the region is very OPEC, this may mean limited new orders locally. On the other hand orders from India and South East Asia may compensate for this. A full and growing order book would put us back in the 150 plus price range

copper fluctuated a little over $3 lb then dropped to current levels. Over the last 6 months copper has fluctuated between $2 and $2.30. It may look as though it is going up, but look at the longer charts and this is much less certain. There are reasons for supposing that we are near the bottom because prices are below AISC for some companies but a strong recovery may not be round the corner. Stock levels are rising, although that may be partly seasonal. The recent recovery in KAZ is due to progress at the new mines and an increasing belief that cash flow difficulties are being overcome. Currently I am undecided as to whether the good company news is now priced in and will stop offsetting the indifferent price news. Should I stay or should I go? Comments welcome
