I tried to tell one of the bitter idiots on Vodafone that telco infrastructure was a good inflation hedge and he was having non of it- glad I swapped into BT, which with current price/earnings and moat is a better deal- the UBS analyst is an idiot - keeps pumping VOD but BT is the real sleeping giant

Its trading off 6x forward earnings - they just need to show they can grow the bottom line again and the ship will turn

I am now convinced with the chairman departing there is something in the pipeline here - I expect part of Openreach will be spun off - taken position in anticaption of significant gains in the next 6 months, expect to realise 20-30% in short order. DYOR

What does that RNS mean, JP Morgan now increasing short?

BT seems vastly undervalued on a p/e ratio - is the market pricing in further declines in revenue and profit in the current SP? Or are we in wait and see mode for regulatory developnents?

Something not right here, Brent $60, stimulus in pipeline, BP down?

Bought in here today for a small amount, maybe grasping a falling knife but I wasn't able to read what extra information that last RNS had that really impacts this..a few contract wins would really help it. Rye Bay got Pets and Home short totally wrong so not that bothered what they are up to.

One question for holders though - on the list of II holders, Blackrock have 3.42%, but the are also listed on the short list - so how does that work?

I think looking at the balance sheet the Goodwill figure will come under scrutiny and possible impairment in this review. Considering the size of the balance and the intangibles the balance sheet isn't that healthy tbh - especially if the losses continue to mount on certain contratcs..this is the reason for the short activity here and continued weakness. Not sure whay the debt covenants say? I am weighing up a small investment but don't like the balance sheet and the fact that they can't quantify how much they are making (or losing). GL

What I say is my view. I will say only this further to assist you...in a world where interest rates are low, i.e bonds yield very little, equity in defensive sectors such as telecoms and utilities are an appealling alternative from which to get a return. Infrastructure assets in private hands are well placed to hedge inflation as prices can be increased in line with cpi...like we are seeing with some price rises for bb i.e virgin recently. Dont make wild assumptions just because you don't grasp my points. GL

Furthermore, telecomms is a proven hedge against inflation. Do what you want, but BT and Voda will do well in next 12 months IMO

The shorts are playing games with it, have patience. The high gearing in an ultra low interest environment, with vast investments in infrastructure going into a new higher inflation environment is perfect for VOD. The return on equity for a highly geared company is far better than for a less geared one.

Say Vantage Towers floats for €20b Euros, and we get 50% cash and retain and 50% stake, what reduction to net debt are we looking at? I.e what is the book value of all the assets that are being floated?

Reuters is reporting that JP Morgan analyst Malcom Barr said in a client note:

'Our sense is that the likelihood of a deal has moved up from the 60-40 we had as the week began, and we now mark that up to 70-30.
