What is the NAV here and forward P/E like on this share- i.e what margin of safety is there on this SP excl this tax ruling payout?

From a risk perspective it does seem like a good deal at this price. Perhaps the price will fade if there is a drawn out process to getting the rebated payment - but I am also scratching my head slightly at current levels

If gold can stay level or gain today, then the inverse relationship with risk and stocks may finally be returning - bitcoin starting to break down should drive it home that crypto was speculative bubble as well as pretty much everything else.

Its been bonkers how poorly gold has performed this year given what is happening to the money supply and with impact of covid variants across the world.

It is particularly interesting that UK listed miners are still down today given POG is up strongly. I feel like when the short capitulate this time, there will be a rather large leg up...but its all just noise in the short term

I have suspected for a while, I think hedge funds are long gold or long equities and short gold miners to hedge, could be wrong

I agree, seeing this more and more with companies where there is potentially price sensitive information not published via RNS

Same thing with Morrisons currently, how is the market undervaluing certain assets so much and over valuing assets with no cashflow..it is beyond me.

Lots of commentators in the media seem desperate to talk down the price of gold even despite the rising inflationary pressure and negative real rates, but it keeps coming back. This morning's drop in CEY was just stupid, gold didn't even move and we were down. The market is totally broken at the moment.

One thing that is really puzzling me is the recent reaction to the slightly more hawkish fed outlook. We have say one maybe two, small interest rate hikes now pencilled in for 2023, which is 18 months away, and gold has tanked. We still have historically low rates, massive QE and M money supply increases and Basel III.

With interest rates at a forecast 2023 level of 0.6% and real interest rates will still being negative with the forecast inflation levels we have, something does not add up in a big way at the moment.

A bit more info from my research - based on my calculation, the vessel was acquired for $20.3m start of 2019 when fx rate was approx. 1.27 USD/GBP. Based on $17.3m resale price at fx of $1.39USD/GBP I would make that a loss on the vessel of circa £3.6m incl fx but excluding capex (which was chunky- I do not have the figure for that). It was a poor investment by all accounts but by selling one vessel and possibly utilising the other (mentioned at the FY2020 results) I think the company has moved on from them and I think derisking the balance sheet was critical.

Looking forward to tomorrow's presentation with more on the future strategy.

Looks like the disposal has been made at a fairly good price to me, should help bring debt down and see the share price start to rise. Great news, expect more on this tomorrow at the capital markets presentation.

My thoughts on the court case. As others have said, how restricting supply is meant to decrease demand and consumption I do not know, it might raise prices I guess. But the fact that private companies are being targeted in seeming isolation will just shift production to national operators or asset divestments will be to smaller players, they will still produce. It seems a knee jerk decision. I mean, are Netherlands going to sanction car makers, Saudi, companies that use plastic?

I think the media has gone overboard with it this last week, writing bold headlines. If this is all supposed to happen by 2030, and we get to the point where the payout yield (from buybacks and dividends) can get to about 9% at current prices, we will all have been cashed out in about 10 years anyway.

Why is it worth 17 times earnings vs BT 11 times earnings, when growth actually looks better at BT? Until that question is answered I think it will continue downwards

Yeah nothing personal, I am just not a chartist and never will be most probably. Even a 0.25% rate hike with 4 or 5% inflation is still good for gold, yet I am sure gold will tank if its even uttered. Some very illogical things occurring in the market

Charts and resistance do not drive stock prices, fundamentals, macros and operational performance do. The inflation increase and near guarantee of no rate hike this year is so structurally bullish for gold that it is a matter of time until it bursts upward..so many people are misjudging it.

When you print free money nothing matters, that is what the market has become. It doesnt listen to anything remotely logical these days!

Spot gold slightly up now...Imo its a crucial test this, gold needs to prove it is the inflation hedge to take..once it does, more money will pile in. The selloff driven by people meeding liquidity last year dented peoples confidence I think
