Yes, my favourite airport I keep banging on about , but it’s looking good for EZJ. The Glasgow flights have pretty much been sold out this last week. Today (Sunday) currently stands at:

Amsterdam 149 out of 156 = 95.5%

Paris 186 out of 186 = 100%

Glasgow 170 out of 186 = 91.4%

Belfast 154 out of 156

Total 659 out of 684 = 96.3%

Something is clearly going well at Southampton. Hopefully more routes from Southampton in 2026/27. Barcelona is being added from October, I can’t see EZJ NOT adding more routes going forward.

Just heard on Radio 4 that CPI rose to 3.8% last month and that a big contributor was a surge in air fares.

Separately, SP to reach/exceed 520 by the end of the week anyone?

Hi @Stille. Given your location and the frequency/journey time of trains to Gatwick, it makes total sense to use LGW.

@Stille. Good to see you back. I did post the other day re Southampton airport. I did a quick test on Sunday (I was in the area). For me it was 110 steps on the level from the rail station exit (platform 2, London arrival side) to the airport entrance.

Welcome. It’ll be a long time for that, it needs to finally crack 600 and keep there. But long term IMO this will be 800 plus.

@Prime. My demons started as a child. Unlike other kids I had imaginary enemies! And I had rocking horse and even that died. And to top it all, in my 20s I went for therapy. The Therapist asked me what the problem was and I said I thought everyone hated me. He said don’t be so silly, not everyone’s met you yet!!

Back to the SP. A bit of a dip today but holding nicely above 500. Let’s hope it stays above all week ready for a nice push upwards.

@Prime. lol! Welcome back, I was starting to think you and Stille had eloped!!!

@1ontheup. Yes potentially. I also see dates where no seats are showing as available and yet the fare still shows, suggesting a certain amount of over booking on the assumption of no-shows. Often, a check an hour or so later shows as sold out. I did an online search and apparently EZJ do overbook to a degree.

Obviously I can’t be 100% accurate as I don’t always see it up to the point of it closing for booking but it is a good and pretty accurate measure. For example, I just checked today’s Glasgow and Belfast flights and they were 170/186 (91.4%) and 142/156 (91.0%) respectively. More may be sold between now and booking.

@1ontheup. Yes, that’s precisely how I do it.

@Stille. I happened to be in the area so did the walk and station exit (London arrival platform) to the airport entrance was 110 steps for me. I do have quite a long stride. I’m told by a friend that it is the shortest railway to airport transit in Europe.

Ok, boring to many I expect but as at circa 1030 today ESJ load factors for today’s flights were as follows;

Amsterdam = 156/156 =100%

Glasgow 178/186 = 95.7%

Belfast 146/156 =93.6%

Paris 178/186 95.7%

Hopefully going higher soon. A good finish to the day, no immediate prospect IMO of going sub 500. But if it does and goes sub 490 I’ll be making small top ups; the fundamentals are fine although I recognise the market does not always reflect the underlying value. A slow and steady rise is my preference. It could all go south tomorrow for all I know but I’m in for the medium to long term.

@stille. Where are you thinking of going to from Southampton?

@Maestroman. Yes, Monday to Saturday it’s a half hourly service requiring a change at Southampton Central for Southampton Airport Parkway (7 minute journey time). The exception on weekdays is the 1213 from Brighton which is direct (it does this to keep Drivers’ route knowledge up as it is used as a diversionary route at times).

As you are in Brighton, Gatwick makes sense but if you do get to use Southampton you’ll find the airport experience so more relaxed.

@Stille. Absolutely! It is actually adjacent to the platform! No signage required, it is quite literally out of the exit, turn left and you are there in probably 2 minutes! Let me know how it goes and what you think. You’ll see why I champion it so much as an alternative to Gatwick where appropriate. As I keep banging on about, given the population within an hour’s travel distance it’s a no brainer where possible. It’s also right by the M27/M3. Take a look on Google maps.

I just noticed that from October EZJ are adding two flights a week from Southampton to Barcelona on Mondays and Fridays. They are showing as operating through to March. The flight out is quite late (1955 on Mondays, 2010 on Fridays) but it does allow for a nice short break (I’m tempted!). It’s great to see more EZJ from Southampton. I hope they will add Jersey a few times a week, I was just looking at booking a few days away next month but the cheapest flight with Blue Islands is £90 one way but realistically £120 plus. Tie it in with another leg, say EDI - JER - SOU - EDI. EZJ have holidays in JER. Southampton has a large catchment area and the airport has excellent transport connections.

I’d be surprised if EZJ did not add further routes to Southampton in 2026/27

I see Ryanair are going to withdraw from Bergerac, Strasbourg and Brive. EZJ already serve Strasbourg twice a week so this could be good for bookings on existing days (or add a third day?). Interestingly, BA have withdrawn all their summer flights from Southampton this season (Palma, Faro and Bergerac I believe). I wonder if EZJ flights from Southampton to Palma and Faro are a contributory cause with Bergerac being a victim as it was the same plane I believe that was used at weekends (used to fly down from Edinburgh on a Friday evening, do the weekend flights then back to Edinburgh Sunday evening.

Scope to add a flight or two to Bergerac perhaps (no doubt from a London airport). Also, dip a toe in the water with Edinburgh given that Southampton to Glasgow is a success?

Yes it was. Also picked up a TA for Dummies book. I need to book a week or so in a cottage in the Western Isles for a week or so (Benbecula).
