RE: BP share price ONLY £3.24 with Brent @ $76.43 !6 Jul 2021 14:50
fossilfool, I'm no chartist but had a look this morning at a comparison between the TREND in the oil price and BP share price over several time periods including 5 years. While it is clear to me that the trend in BP sp does follow the trend in the poo, this relationship in direction seems to have broken down sometime in June! It was never a direct quantitative relationship; we all know that while poo is up 80% YTD, BP is up just 20%. If the trend relationship were to be re-calibrated, it would imply a sharp swing north in the BP sp from....well round about now! It's just my humble gleanings from eyeballing the comparative charts over several time periods and I'm wondering what others think. If the directional relationship is not re-established it implies there is selling pressure coming from somewhere that we are not aware of - perhaps a sovereign wealth fund. We have to bear in mind at all times that BP is considered by the Green cohort as simply not green; it's out of fashion big time. I think greed will trump green though around the Q2 results. Just my opinions. I have a big chunk of my portfolio in BP and I'm as mystified as anyone else as to why SP is not a lot higher.
