Modestus, the energy storage needs legislation like COMAH which is used for gas storage . Do you know how much energy is proposed to be stored at that site? I think I might write to HSE if it is significant.

Lee, are you sure it is because of complaints? I am wondering if it is a consequence of the government cracking down on all social media - I have noticed certain posters have been removed from TikTok this week. The government are doing much like many failing regimes do - controlling the media and outlawing dissent - ironically straight out of Putins playbook!

The EU have been left behind by china in the lemming like rush for EVs with the consequence that their growth powerhouse, Germany is not expanding. Throw into the pot the extra money required for the Ukraine war and there will be limited pickings there for the UK. The only positive thing they could offer Starmer is a way out of his current immigration challenge by stopping the boats and defusing the rising tensions in England, which bizarly he is making worse. None of this is great for UK economy and the likely result will be a cut in interest rates which is bad for lloy sp.

Laura, two things about Lucy Letby - her crimes are worthy of a protest but there was no actual event for people to coalesce around had she committed her muders on a particular day I am sure there would have been protests of some sort. In reality the state has let the parents down through mismanagement in the hospital much like the state are letting the public down by mismanagement of immigration. The secondpoint about Letby is that there has been an article in the times [ i think] that has highlighted that during her time on the ward the taps in the ward contained high levels of a microorganism that is deadly to vulnerable babies. No doubt her lawyers will mount an appeal and the more information will become available adding to the parents distress. More cover ups anyone?

Sticky, for the first time I agree with one of your posts - so I rang the GP to ask for a check up. Got an appointment for December they said I was not a priority been here too long apparantly.

I used to work for amec , which was a big multinational that became even bigger on merger with Foster Wheeler and grew yet again in physical reach and capability [ albeit with some disposals] once taken over by Wood. 3 great UK engineering companies that now seem to be worth a tiny fraction of their combined value of around 15 years ago. I cannot believe that this company cannot deliver value as a standalone or as a takeover target. Time to buy more , if funds can be found - lol.

Just bought another £4k at a little under £1.20 - expecting some upside on trading news.

The plan here is to flog the dead horse of the Portland project until the government announces which projects will get funding. In anticipation that the Portland project will fail they are looking for a more economically viable project to submit in the hope that might suceed and keep the ceo employed for a few more months all imv.

Laura, right wing thugs - how many - several million perhaps? In reality the government have not listened to the concerns of huge swathes of british people and through their actions are making those people more angry. Whether you agree with those mllions or not is irrelevant - they need to feel included if law and order is to be restored. The government needs to change course on some key issues like Thatcher did when we had PollTax Riots. Of course the challenge here is that it is ordinary people so there is nobody to negotiate with and the 'demands' are quite complex to solve in a reasonable timescale.

Realistically they nedd £100m not £1m to advance the portland storage project , however did anyone notice the reference to 'other storage projects'? Hopefully they will find one that does not require excavating through Portland stone , is nearer existing pipelines and crucially demand. Good luck folks.

What I find worrying is there was nothing in the media about the stabbing and wonder why not? It is one thing to promote an atmosphere of harmony but another to cover up an awful crime.

Sticky, I think we all will condemn the rac15t rioting in recent days. We should also applaud the many thousands of peaceful protestors who have given up their time to highlight the issues that many millions of people in this country are experiencing but the government are ignoring. People , particularly women , no longer feel safe and the countries limited housing and health resources are being offered to immigrants as a priority over the existing population. To add fuel to the fire the early actions by this labour government are making the situation worse and they need to change or be changed.

George, good post but I see the bigger problem as one where a large number of people feel they are being ignored whilst another group is getting preferential treatment by the government. Whether or not politicians agree with that groups views is not as important as it is to make that group feel listened to and for the politicians to take action that demonstrates they have been heard. Just now the government are ignoring that group and making matters worse by adding to their grieveances , e.g stopping winter fuel payments for pensioners , saving £1.6n to help pay the £6.7bn that asylum seekers accomodation will cost. Telling people they are wrong to feel the way they do is not going to work. Throw into the mix that the government is now failing in its primary duty , to keep the people safe and you have the recipe for Riots . Thatcher had to change government policy because of poll tax riots and Starmer will have to do likewise over immigration and frankly the sooner he does the better it will be for all current UK residents.
