George, good post but I see the bigger problem as one where a large number of people feel they are being ignored whilst another group is getting preferential treatment by the government. Whether or not politicians agree with that groups views is not as important as it is to make that group feel listened to and for the politicians to take action that demonstrates they have been heard. Just now the government are ignoring that group and making matters worse by adding to their grieveances , e.g stopping winter fuel payments for pensioners , saving £1.6n to help pay the £6.7bn that asylum seekers accomodation will cost. Telling people they are wrong to feel the way they do is not going to work. Throw into the mix that the government is now failing in its primary duty , to keep the people safe and you have the recipe for Riots . Thatcher had to change government policy because of poll tax riots and Starmer will have to do likewise over immigration and frankly the sooner he does the better it will be for all current UK residents.
