There's an interview somewhere where Trump or his team were claiming he was the first elected president that wouldn't be lining his own pockets via his office. He and his wife subsequently launched crypto-currencies and it's claimed that they and affiliated companies harvested millions from those. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he and his family are gaining financially from the turmoil he causes.

Fog, there's only one sell I can think of where the SP didn't drop afterwards. That was Jul 20th 2022. Price rose in fact, from around 340 to around 490. Mostly though their sells have been consistent with a falling SP over time.

Yes NAV, I was wonderinga about US bonds. I have a poor knowledge of this sort of thing, but I figured the US treasuries would naturally be viewed as less risky, but 50% less risky? Seems like a big difference between HBR's 6.3 and US 10y 4.3?

So good for the creditors, not so good if you're paying 6.3% i.e. not so good for HBR? I was wondering how this related to for example US treasuries. I think the 10 year is about 4.35%, HBR is being paying 6.3%, suggesting it's viewed as a lot less safe than US bonds?

I don't think it's new Talies, but the toxicity is depressing. Social media and bb's are a perfect place to be unpleasant to anyone who doesn't agree with you. As you say, mad. When you think that the only reason to be here is to learn, discuss and fingers crossed make money, it makes little sense that there is so much unpleasantness. I periodically give up on trying to share or post. It's too d am n difficult!!

Sorry Talies, I think I've missed something. What do you mean by 'we'. There's too much on these boards to follow that back.

We've made a big deal about being investment grade. Is 6.3% a good rate. We have more headroom now 900 vs 500 and 2035 vs 2026. Is it a good deal?

Big, does that mean you've got access to real short data rather than nett positions?

BT, if you look at the bottoming pattern it could be a triangle bottom or maybe even cup n handle. Either way it's activated and it would suggest a good chance of the SP reaching or exceeding 133/134. I don't see anything obvious around that level that might act as resistance, but you could argue there is resistance around 138/139. There's also a descending tl resistance currently round about 140/141(that's from Nov 1st 2024/Jan 28th 2025 and next touch if we see one. Best not to get ahead of ourselves on things, but if that were to play out and the descending tl was broken, there are good arguments for levels around 200 and even 220ish. I would not be surprised to see a drop back to 124 or below first though.

Maybe I should also mention that the chart on closing today does look bullish, but I think it's a trap. I will wait and if I miss out on a great opportunity, I'll find another.

LW, of course you might be right about your take on the macro situation. However, my belief is very firmly that the SP will fall to 247 or lower. My view is no more important than yours or anyone elses. I won't buy until those levels have been taken out. What people get confused about (many/not all) is what they're actually doing. If you're investing/trading etc, you're here to make money. Nothing else. You're not here to contribute to a board. I want to clarify that some contributors are very important (in fact if you had to buy some of the advice on these bb's, most couldn't afford to buy it), but deciding who and when is not necessarily any easier than chosing a time to buy a stock.

Check any bb. They will all have dominant experts. In my time doing this, I have watched many of these intelligent, experienced and highly educated people lose millions.

Doing is very different from knowing.

I know little, but have a great deal of experience and the little I know is focussed on the payout.

It's a queer one to short. With that dividend (ex divi very soon) a significant short will take a significant hit. Best to understand that most on bb's have no idea about what shorts really represent. I'm not saying ignore it, just that it's a complex game that most of us don't understand.

It's not exactly true Andy, but I get the gist. There's a saying 'buy low, sell high'. If you buy today and it drops further, you've bought high and are watching the SP move away from you the wrong way. In those situations, many who've bought a reasonable 'risk' position will drop out when/if the SP regains it's b/e. There's not much profit in that, but there's a fair bit of relief (happens to me often enough so that's a fresh memory if you like). Then again an early morning movement provides signficant relief, but is unhelpful to P/L
