I have just looked up the size of the Islander. It is 292m long which means the number of shipyards that would be able to take it is limited. So it maybe that HARL was the only shipyard with capacity to take the Islander that had the space available.

Kaeren ref 14.11 post I found this bit interesting inaccuracies and you know me and inaccuracies. 'The ferry company is an independent one, quoted on the London Stock Exchange no less. And a minister thinks it right to bully - even insist - in this manner?' While the Steamship Company is independent as fas I am aware it is not quoted on the London Stock Exchange. The article also seems to have forgotten that HARL is planning to charge less than the Steamship Company.

Looking at the comments looks like they may not have any trouble with filling those vacancies

Chrisatrdg ref 21.02 post What I found more interesting is the type of vessels that they are. We have a Chemical Oil Tanker and a General Cargo Ship currently docked. Due tomorrow is another Chemical Oil Tanker. I am not sure if they are just off loading cargo or if they are in for running repairs.

Kaeren ref 11.45 post agreed only about 5% - 10% of appeals get permission from the Supreme Court to bring an appeal.

I notice that next week judgement is going to be given in a case about losses arising from a hijack by pirates. The details are not that important. what is important is that the case number indicates that the appeal was lodged two years ago. The same is true for a judgement handed down today. I mention this because in relation to IM the next and final appeal would be to the Supreme Court. On this kind of timescale we would be looking at a resolution in 2026.

Going by the size of the cruise ship I would have thought even a paint job would be expensive enough to justify an RNS. I agree we do need more info on the work being done on it.

Si_Derman ref 11.01 post I would not expect anything from jW for about two weeks. He does seem to wait before mentioning anything. I recall him on ocassion mentioning about a vessel just as the vessel is leaving.

That is partially factually inaccurate. I am not sure if the exact legal status has much effect on the length of time it takes for the application to be processed. The UKEF internal processes are likely to have had a greater bearing on the matter. Admittedly as it is public money that is being used those processes will take sometime.

The other area that you have fallen into error in is ascribing the length of the Parliamentary recesses to the delay in the application being processed. Parliament would have no say in this it is a government decision. I am not sure that it would require a statement in Parliament. It would undoubtedly be the subject to a UKEF press release the timing of which will need to be coordinated with HARL.

Wyndrum ref 16.19 post I would only observe that the novation of a contract is not as faras I am aware a given so your statement that new owners will take over and fulfil the contract may not be accurate

Wyndum ref 14.40 post leaving aside your analysis of what the market makers may or may not be doing with regards to holding stock your view that HARL is on the verge of bankruptcy is not supported by other facts. I say that for the following reasons.

Firstly, as the recent update on the debt facility, (see 29 December RNS), permission hs been given by the relevant Treasury Minister to advance negotiations with the banks on the basis of a 200m loan supported by a 100% guarantee from the UKEF Export Development Scheme. This scheme normally has a maximum guarantee of 80%. To go to 100% needs Ministerial approval. No civil servant who values his job would in my opinion ask for Minsiterial approval for a £200m guarantee in relation to a company that might go bust.

Secondly, There is the SeaRose Mid Life Extension contract. While the exact commercial terms are not known I would expect that there would be stage payments. In addition we have the news from today of the £800k contract for the Cable Barge. Also there are three vessels due to cycle through Belfast this week two oil products tankers and a general cargo ship. As all three are berthed for upto three days it may be that they are using the cranes. There is a fourth vessel who is arriving tomorrow currently no information on length of stay. Taking all these into consideration I must disagree that there is any cashflow issue.
