Also I think the problem is the government's insistence on using management/recruitment consultants who have no operational knowledge of what the military does to handle recruitment. I think that the MoD will need to pull the contract from Crapita and give it back to MoD Personnel.

But HARL does not seem to be getting any increase in market share of the refits. I think it the last four years there was only 1 year when we had nine vessels in Belfast at the same time

LSE03 ref 09.29 post I think if the 2030 target is to be met in both the Republic of Ireland and the UK there needs to be a fundamental rethink on the plannng process. As I see it there are two options. Firstly they could use the Development Control Order process. I am not sure if this would lead to a significant decrease in time to get permission though as there would need to be a formal examination. The other alternative is a Private Act of Parliament I am not sure if this is available in the repblic of Ireland but it is in England. The disadvantage of this procedure is that MPs can derail it. The advantage is that it is relatively quick in that it is dealt with in one parlaimentary session. The other advantage is that a private Act of Parliament like a public Act cannot be challenged in the Courts.

Scaffman ref 20.07 post The relationship between BAB, BAe and HARL is complex. While they are competitors they do work cooperatively. For instance when officials from BAe went to Appledore this caused takeover rumours to start flying. As I understand it Appledore did do some subcontract work for BAe. I cannot recall what it was but it was never made public as far as I know. Also BAe was a subcontractor on the M55 contract. My comment about whether BAB and BAe can do the work in time was refering to whether they can finish the Type 26 programme before the vessels mentioned in the article are decommissioned.

Also will BAB and BAe be able to build the frigates that they are currently building on time.

Just seen this in the Times digital edition. Maybe with the recent engagement with the Opposition by Ben Murray HARL might get a look in when it comes to implementation of the review.

Wyndrum 11,59 post you state 'assuming IM overcomes the latest and hopefully last appeal then I think it will be sold to reduce debt.' I have two points on this assuming No Gas Caverns lose the appeal in February, as an aside I would expect the actual decision in Q2, they have the right to petition the Supreme Court for leave to appeal. The petition would go to be heard y a panel of three Justices of the Supreme Court. This has the potential to push the matter into next year. My second point is that a sale of IM is one possibility but it is not in my opinion as likely as any of the other.

Wyndruw ref 11.44 post I note the point you make that is why I was using the FSS contract as the only item of the order book as that is a secure multi year contract. There is therefore no question in my opinion that the contract will not be completed. In view of what is known about contracts for this year I do not see any question of bankruptcy arising.
