LSE03 ref 13.35 post Thanks for this. If I recall in the past some HARL workers have complained about pay rates. If I recall the rates are in line with what BAE are offering in this article. The problem BAe have is if the industrial action escalates then they risk not being able to complete contracts on time.

Lottie123 ref 10.39 post we are almost at mid October and I cannot see any indication from the Belfast Harbour website of any dockings in the next two weeks. I am therefore unsure about the dockings you referring to. Of concern is that it is now about a month since there has been a docking except for that same day in and out docking.

Jabido ref 08.17 post There is no rule on how long a judge can take to give a judgement. In a simple case you might get a decision in a week. In a case like the IslandMagee JR where there is a high probability of an appeal the judge will take extra care. This is because he does not want heavy criticism from the Court of Appeal. I would therefore expect a decision Q1 2023. It is possible to get a decision in December but I think Q1 is more likely.

Having checked both Traffic Expected and In port I cannot see anything in any of the known HARL berths. Also there is no indication of anything due into any of the berths. This s not definite as this information has been known to change later in the same day after I have checked

Hebridean9 ref 17.32 post the problem is in my view that HARL has managed to erode both shareholder value and shareholder goodwill. It is possible for HARL to turn things around and the new Head of Strategy is a good start perhaps he should have been bought on board earlier. From the link in my 14.30 post it looks like the Deepwater Terminal Project is still on track. The question is whether HARL can keep hold of Arnish to benefit from it.

LSE03 ref 12.02 post I wonder if Stornoway would apply for Freeport status in relation to the new Deepwater terminal that it is being built. If I recall the masterplan the terminal is being specifically being built to serve the large vessels needed for offshore developments. See this article from the Scotsman https://www.scotsman.com/business/stornoway-port-authority-unveils-firm-chosen-to-build-ps49m-deep-water-terminal-3650820. Arnish will be serviced from this terminal via a new link road.

Chrisatrdg ref 16.22 post thanks for posting the link. It has never been stated how much if anything HARL paid for the Athelstone so hopefully HARL can make a large profit than normal on this.

Interesting, in my view, post on LinkedIn from JW . I am going to copy it over from my smartphone. This will require one handed typing hope it works. The post reads
'Fantastic teamwork from our Appledore yard as the RNLI barge is undocked to make room for our second minehunter ex HMS Athelstone that will be docked to remove parts initially.We then have two competing projects as to where her future lies that we hope will be finalised during October.'

I am not too keen on the use of the word hope.

Just seen this https://www.afloat.ie/sail/tall-ships/item/56498-atlantic-youth-trust-ship-grace-o-malley-completes-round-ireland-tour-in-belfast. I cannot find this ship on the Belfast Harbour Website so I am unable to verify that the vessel is in Belfast. Assuming that the story is true this would be a significant piece of work.

Chrisatrdg ref 15.47 post The Minister will be represented by Crown Counsel and you do ot get on the list to represent the Government unless you are very good. As an example of the quality of Counsel used before becoming a Judge Lord Sales, now a Supreme Court Justice. was First Treasury Counsel and represented the government in the most complicated cases. I know of one other former barrister who acted for the government who is now a Court of Appeal Judge.

The Minister will probably be represented by a barrister who will at some stage end up on the bench.

Bubble2021 ref 15.28 post Not unexpected I am not sure that HARL even put in a bid. Question as to whether they would be able to deliver on time and on budget. They are taking on a reputational risk if do ot deliver on this contract. I think this may make it more likely than not that Team Resolute will get the FSS contract due to deliverability concerns.

Just seen this via the UK Defence Journal twitter feed. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/work-on-new-frigates-helps-secure-ferguson-marine-future/. It seems to back my view that BAB and BAe are stringing JW making him think he has got a chance of sub contracting work.

LSE03 ref 11.44 post in relation to the first ship which will be purchased and then fitted out it is probably within HARL's capability having done a dry docking on a research ship. Also if they want it operational in a year I do not see BAB or BAe with all their current orders having the capacity. Also in view of the problems Cammel Laird had with the Sir Richard Attenborough I am not sure if the MOD would want to risk them not completing on time. So HARL being asked to do it is a possibility.
