RE: Vast17 Apr 2023 12:17
Sandy - yes, of course, m/cap is the key metric and I, of course, concede that it has been higher. Can't remember exactly when I first invested in VAST BUT BP was not in a good state, there was no mention of Takob and certainly no public mention of diamonds. There was a pretty nasty episode with Atlas and many on here were suggesting that VAST and AP were finished.
Today, the position is quite different. Production is well up at BP and, whilst not at profitable levels yet, is heading in the right direction. There will soon be income from Takob and a healthy deposit from the diamonds which should eradicate debt (if that is what AP chooses to do). By all accounts, there will also be a re-start of operations in Zimbabwe.
So, when I say that turnaround is well underway, this is what I mean.
From an investment point of view, when is the right time to invest? Was it last year, last month or last week? Should the potential investor wait until nameplate has been reached at BP or wait until the money is in the bank from Takob and/or the diamonds or wait for all those boxes to be ticked?
I may have got some of my timing wrong but I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be making money on VAST if I was to wait for AP to get the BP workers off a 6 hour day.
As I've said before, it's easy to pick holes in a firm like VAST at the stage that it's at with a CEO like AP with the history he's got BUT the main question for investors is whether VAST will be worth more (m/cap) in whatever timescale they've set. For me, I expect VAST to multi-bag in my investment timescale.
