I feel it is highly unlikely that HMRC will directly raid ISAs, but i also thought it highly unlikely that the gov would pass a law allowing banks to "bail in" bond holders, stock holders and depositors to save a bank. In these crazy times all options will be looked at by a desperate gov. What will really worry me personally is CGT being levied on my lovely Brittanias. I think i will not tell them where they are. Hi Tom. I agree, in principle, with the views of your accountant. However these are exceptional times and HMRC can do whatever they want whenever they want. the rules as they stand exempt tax on a stocks and share isa, this is not to say it will be the same tomorrow. If Gordon Brown was able to snatch funds from your pension the present chancellor can certainly take a wealth tax from your isa. I am not saying this will happen just a posability , Same as 15p by Friday. ATB Speedy

Yes my goldies (GGP, Wheaton metals,PHSP, PHAG and my lovely Britannias) are all doing very well, even my punt here at 1.6p and 2.6p are looking better by the day. Hi Hydrogen. All my gold investments are in physical form or related stock. My gambling /fun money is traded, for the very short term, in several ETFs (both silver and gold). To answer your question paper gold is good for short term trading but very very dangerous for the buy and forget brigade. This is only my opinion and should be read as such. ATB Speedy

Hi All. Todays trading in gold was text book, the bullion banks will defend $1800 with all their might. When it first hits $1800 and continues slightly higher they will hit it back to $1760/50. They are over exposed on the short side and will fight to save their position, but they are fighting a losing battle. ATB Speedy
