Hi All. The Chapwood index measures real inflation on 500 most commonly purchased items. It shows a yearly increase of roughly 10%. At that rate the POG needs to double ever 7 years just to maintain spending power. I have not worked out what the real POG should be today but i can assure you it has a lot of catching up to do. In all honesty i see a price of 50ozs of gold to by the average house in the UK as a good starting point. For real gains the gold mining stocks will deliver fantastic returns over the next few years, all the pointers are looking for a massive influx of funds into good miners, get loaded. ATB Speedy

Hi Panama. Gold bars are good but carry a CGT burden, As a UK citizen Gold Sovereigns and Britannias, being coin of the realm, carry no CGT. Premiums above spot are higher than bars but over time this becomes less problematic.
