The computerized trading has been going on for weeks. Ive never seen it so transparent where you can predict the daily range. IMO this has been coupled with a major investor reducing their exposure and is keeping the share price low

there's no doubt its a risk and I'm only buying with what I can afford to lose, but I strongly believe Debenhams has weathered the worst of the storm. I think its much braver or probably crazy to not sell any shares like M&S and a raft of others that haven't been hit this hard yet IMO

absolutely staggered ive been able to buy this share at under 4p today! This has got to be the most unloved share at the moment, because I see this rising significantly in january

lse2000 it doesn't make sense that the short selling will continue on this share with the price so low. they will be looking at other vulnerable high street names

I agree on HOF, but I think that Mike ashleys real end game is being missed. He wants to present HOF and Debenhams in dire straights in the short term as he has the landlords over a barrel. If you look at how many leases mike Ashley is acquiring or trying to acquire that reveals the real end game IMO, and that's why this share will only stay low short term

end of the day the board are in the position where they don't need mike ashleys money and once he gives up trying a hostile takeover through the backdoor he will want his money back on an improved share price the same as any other investor, rather than his current tactic of driving the price down

selling now is a big mistake. so much speculation on this share without facts. figures will come in after Christmas and there will be a steady improvement but this share is for the long haul. I still stand by it not getting anywhere near 3p. there was a solid bounce at 4.5p last time

I cant see it ever getting anywhere near 3p. Debenhams position of dire straights has been greatly exaggerated by the press and mike Ashley and the asos news just allows me to top up on debs shares at a better price, and buy asos at a knock down price too

Debenhams also have a much better business plan going forward compared to HOF. As Debenhams main competitor in the future MA will turn the house of fraser into a bargain basement sports direct style shop and run it into the ground. In a years time Debenhams will have more re-vamped stores as set out in their business plan and further online expansion

lse200: why would you short now? This share has no room to go any lower. it will never go lower than 4.2p and that's the most extreme assessment. MA is playing a game, next year the Christmas sales results wont be great but they will be good enough to reaffirm the stability of the business and the SP will rise

I’m sorry but the whole discounting and never paying full price concept is fundamentally wrong. Zara a market leader don’t entertain the mass of sales other retailers now embrace and instead only opt for two sales a year and mulberry would rather burn 40 million of luxury goods literally, than discount it. Mike Ashley is a one trick pony with his discount warehouses and that’s why as an investor I’m pleased he won’t get his hands on Debenhams.

I was all ears until you said close by Christmas. That's just not going to happen

I'm sticking with this share as a solid buy. in the short term the share could potentially dip under 5p a few times but long-term next year this share will be at a much higher level. I don't see why the day traders on here bother with negative posts, it wont have any sway over the larger market forces. the current sp and market cap are ridiculously low

Thanks Upside, I agree that people don't see Debenhams as a place to shop online at the moment, but I also believe they will push this expansion heavily in 2019. I think this coupled with the remodeled stores is a solid business plan.
I also agree MA wants debs to fail and that's why its a blag to me, because he knows this is his best chance to apply pressure, but in reality Debenhams are in a much better position than he claims. Along with the press MA keeps mentioning Debenhams imminent collapse every time he speaks about HOF. MA would love to be in the position where he owns debs and HOF, his power and influence over the British high street and over the landlords would be considerable. I stand by the position that Debenhams is a great long term buy

Don't get me wrong KingleK Im a strong supporter of buying Debenhams as a long term investment and all of my posts reflect this but yes I have to say I do admire Ashleys strategy and his ability to make money. I have been in and out of all of these shops over the last few months. Today in house of fraser there was busy footfall and as well as the standard stock Ashley is pumping out a load of sports direct stock, all the while at the same time he is making the loudest noise playing the violins about the depth of the high street. shopping is the UK's number one hobby and that's never going to change, the store just need a new format to reinvigorate the high street. In a years time Debenhams price will have made a significant recovery after some bumps along the way

this seems to be a big change in your outlook. for the last few months you've been posting that the falls are only going to continue.
I stand by my outlook that in the short term several factors will keep this share low but that the short sellers will lose their position after christmas

To be honest Upside, I'm not seeing the doom and gloom in your post when shopping there. At the Debenhams in telford over the weekend there was busy foot-fall and the strategy of bringing in food outlets instore is working well. mike Ashley is making a blag to try and reduce the SP, because he wont get it for the amount he wants after Christmas. Debenhams don't need to entertain his conditions and if he does decide to pursue it its going to cost him a lot more money.

got to admire how mike Ashley has played this one, making a big public statement that he will offer Debenhams 40mil because he believes they will go out of business otherwise. Perfect play to reduce the SP and increase his holding and make a full takeover.
